Thomas Brown to join staff

I'm just not sure what all the fuss is about. Who were we anticipating at RB coach? I had either Ice being retained or BMac (UGA) sliding over.

Take the Super-G jersey out of his closet and Brown appears to fit what most people think of at RB coach - young, played the game, good place to put a "recruiter." Plus his resume has a couple legit stops on it - not like he just started coaching this year...

This move shouldn't really be all that surprising or bothersome. Personally I'm saving my faux outrage for the DC =P

I was never really one for saving, I am more of a tax and spend guy. So I am using up all my outrage now, and will borrow some from you later.

Every time a member of Golden's staff is kicked off campus it's a win for our program.

good move by Brother Richt. Since he's calling plays, he'll use the tandem of Brown and BMac to recruit the **** out of the south to bring him the most unbelievable athletes to execute his explosive offense.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic, but i agree with this statement fully if you're being serious. I can see something along those lines

"Oh hey elite QB, I've coached Charlie Ward, Chris Weinke, Matt Stafford and more."
"Oh hey star running back, want to be the next Melvin Gordon? Nah, Todd Gurley is more your style? Don't worry developed both."

Happy to see Ice replaced assuming Brown will be the RB coach to go along with a "co-OC" type of label.

- Get Swasey, Coley, and Kehoe out of here. Clean house with the rest of the staff, too.
- Revitalize the strength and conditioning program.
- Hire a killer DC instead of someone like Brian VanGorder or Willie Martinez.

If Richt hits all those bullet points, I'll be very happy. Also hoping for McClendon to be part of the offensive staff, but we'll see what happens.

I think this is a very good hire. He is moving up the ranks fast and Richt seems to think he's a good coach. Lets see the positives, he is a young, probably energetic coach, who has played the position at a high level in HS, College, and some in the pros. He brings a wealth of different things he's learned over the years and if he is half as good as Richt thinks he might be then he can teach those things too. Most important thing in a coach is not what he knows, it's what he can teach. Downfall is that he is young??? Worth the risk IMO. Good coach who is becoming very good recruiter that has the playing resume and can connect with kids.

Give him the title of CO-OC with BMac (one is run game coordinator the other is pass game coordinator and it happens everyday) and pray that these two are coming to Miami. I am fine with the titles since Richt should be calling plays. These guys won't be here long if we are successful because it's easy to get a job if you already hold the title so they will be calling plays somewhere soon for a raise if we are successful. I promise you that at the least we will not lose the amount of kids we are losing that are truly elite difference makers in S. Fl.

but we need Coley to find QB's because richt has only coached charlie ward, danny kanel, chris weinke, dj shockley, aaron murray, matthew stafford, etc.

HAHAHA you know what, that is the one area where i think Coley is Elite. Projecting what a QB can become. Most of the guys on the list above where almost can't miss propects, but Richt did a great job coaching them up and calling simple plays that produced. However if we can recruit QBs like the list above again then i don't think we'll need to identify under the radar talent. Win win.

i just dont get the fans trying to create a position for coley. i mean this offense was not good this year. Kehoe was the only one i would give a break because he lost Flowers and Gadbois. he recruited well they were just young and got better as year went on. Beard i would consider keeping too as a support staff but mcclendon is much more accomplished.

I am actually in the camp that i would like to see Beard retained as WR coach, but i also agree that BMac is an upgrade in every facet. I just think Beard is going to be REALLY good pretty soon. I think he is going to be a great coach and recruiter in the not to distant future. I know the opinions of the board vary, but that one is mine. To me he has an "it" factor with the kids,he has the knowledge, but most importantly he can get his position group to buy in and what he teaches translates to the field and production in my eyes.

I'd keep Scott and move him to OL. The kids played hard as **** for him those last games even getting thier asses handed to them by UNC i thought there was more fight near the end then in Clemson, but maybe that was cause our starters were in haha. He started as an Oline GA, but i think he would gain the knowledge needed there. Plus he is a better than average recruiter imo.

I would also like to see Hurlie Brown retained. Say what you want, but when he coached RBs i thought he did a good job and I think he worked wonders with our LBs. That position group was thin to start and the most ravaged by injuries, but even at the end of the year we had good LB play. Young, Trent Harris (The teams unsung hero), and all the rest played well. Gayot was coming along. I think he did a very solid job there. Plus he is our best recruiter and if you team him up with BMac, Brown, Lily, and company i think he can become better.

Brown, Scott, Beard if you keep any in that order, but if Brown was the only one then i think that would be a good move.

But Richt has no pull

Suckers
Offering a 29 year old dude with limited coaching experience a $600k salary and co-OC title versus the likely $300k and RB coach title at UGA isn't really "pull". He's getting a huge raise and big upgrade in job title.

Yeah but we pulled him out of UGA.

Yup! An SEC team!!! Lord knows the U of Miami could never win games like mighty Georgia and their 1 title in my lifetime!

Oh great. Now Richt sucks because he didn't hire a guy that nobody had heard of until 2 months ago.

Hey if you want to blindly support a guy who is filling our staff with a bunch of former Bulldog players, thats on you.

I explicitly stated that I want an elite experienced staff here. Not a welfare program for the recently graduated UGA player.....

do u realize what brown has done as a young coach? or are u just blindly *****ing cause butch didn't get hc job. brown coached georgia rb's this past year has coached at multiple schools prior to last year and was succesful at his stops. he knows how to coach rb's that will be his primary role. since he was an ex rb. also co oc is just a title and i think mclendon or lilly will get co oc title also. to go with position they coach.

richt on offense is his staff and im not gonna every question a rb coach decision. georgia under richt has had moreno, gurley, chubb, there are alot of others but they have been loaded year in year out.

Are any of these details confirmed?

Either way, this guys seems to show some promise. Seems like a sharp guy (GEORGIADOGS.COM - Coach Brown Mic'd Up - University of Georgia Official Athletic Site). I'll reserve judgment until I have more details and until this staff really starts to take shape.

He will be CO-OC with McClendon.

Lilly will be assistant HC.

Looks like each will make 600k.....total is $1.2 for offensive coordinators.

We have a 5 mil budget.....plenty of $.

From rusty Mansel Uga 247
"I am told he is getting a Co-Coordinator title and a salary around or above 600K with a 3 year deal at Miami with CMR
That is a MONSTER deal for Brown.
Great Coach, Great person
There will be a lot of people in line to coach RB's at UGA can bet that.."

600K for a glorified recruiter is a huge waste of money. Instead of worrying about getting his ex players paid, he should have spent that cash on Don Brown.

You are truly an imbecile.
