As we get closer and closer to kickoff, and every nuance and angle of this game swirls though my head, the one thing I keep coming back to over and over is just how perfect of an opportunity this is from literally every perspective. Rarely do opportunities this perfect come along for a team, a coach, and a program.

First of all, for Manny. How often does a brand new coach, a first-time Head Coach for that matter, get a chance to start their career with a neutral site game against, what I feel, is your biggest and most hated rival? This doesn't happen everyday. The closest thing I can think of is Jimmy Johnson in 1984, starting his first game here against the #1 team in the country (Auburn). But JJ had been a HC before, and it wasn't a natural rival. This is Manny's first game ever, and he gets a chance to take on the filthy cousin****ing gator.....what more can you possibly ask for in your first game?

And speaking of the gator, what an incredible opportunity to play these delusional ****heads, RIGHT NOW, as opposed to basically any time in the past 6-7 years. This game literally could not have come at a better time. The gator is as "up" as they've been probably since 2010 to start a season. They began that year at #10, just 2 years removed from the 2008 National Championship. But every year since, the expectations have been down. Imagine this game being played after one of their 4 win seasons? Their confidence wouldn't be nearly as high, and again, the opportunity to beat what people think is a marquee opponent wouldn't be nearly as prominent. These dudes actually think they're a good football team. There are people in that fanbase who think they can beat UGA and play for the SEC. What a perfect opportunity to humble them on national TV in front of the whole world.

Yes, the whole world will be watching. Again, what an opportunity to announce to the country that #TNM is real and not a mirage created by the false hope of a new coach. They literally moved up this game a week so EVERYONE can watch. There isn't a football fan in the country who will miss this game. Everyone is foaming at the mouth for football....well, this is the FIRST game of this season that actually matters. Every college football fan and even NFL fans will be tuning in. What a chance to show the world, literally, what this program is about and what this team will be this season.

So again, you just don't get the stars to align like this in life very often. Opportunities like this do not come around frequently. Yes, there will be 11 more games this year, at least. No, Manny and this year will not be defined by only these 60 minutes. But you couldn't draw this up any better. An underdog. Week 1. National TV. Your most hated opponent. Them coming off their best year in a long time, with a ton of optimism, expectations, and confidence. All eyes on your new coach. I'm sure there's some credence to having Manny start his reign with a cupcake to ease into this whole Head Coach thing. Most guys get that chance. But ***** that, this is Miami. We wouldn't want it any other way.

I just hope this staff and roster understands the true opportunity that's been laid out in front of them. Don't let it slip. Chances like this don't happen often. Go show the world, your fanbase, your staff, your school, and most of all these delusional pricks in jorts that, no matter what, Miami owns []_[].

I have no doubt Manny understands the magnitude of this game that you described. Not only from a first time HC perspective, but also from a program perspective and the major implications on both.

I expect our team will be ready and give maximum effort. Manny will except nothing less.

The experience and talent on this defense will be the reason Miami wins. Season openers and rivalry games always come down to defense and special teams. I fully expect to see a dominate performance by the defense and for Jeff Thomas to have a career day as a punt returner, consistently giving this young offense great field position.

Absolutely agree. This is the kind of game that can catapult UM "back"...after well over a decade of trying to get back. I thought the Notre Dame game would have been that, but then we fell apart. We need to seize this opportunity...and this time don't let it go.

You are right they are a good team, but he's saying their fanbase thinks they are on the level of Bama and Clemsons of the world.

I know it's just fanboy nonsense and they don't really believe this garbage, but go read their board. Talk to their fans. They literally have a 2 page thread about how Manny was so classy in his praise of their staff and team during media day and it's because he doesn't want Mullen to run up the score. They think he was effusive in his praise because he's trying to avoid Mullen embarrassing him in the 2nd half. They're talking about playing walkons in the 4th quarter. The delusion is comical. It's time to humble these dudes. They don't think their team has any holes, that it's a total foregone conclusion that they're gonna absolutely roll Miami from the opening whistle.

My man. Great post, though I admit I've wished we had a softer opening game lol. First time HC, new OC, and starting freshmen at QB AND both tackle spots...tough opening assignment for those guys. But you're right, great opportunity and something true Canes will relish. It's just been a while since we've looked and acted like "true Canes" (on the field) so sometimes hard to hold it down like that.

What's your prediction for Saturday night, OBM?

I would be incredibly surprised if the game is not close either way. Normally these early season games are a little sloppy, and I don't think either team will be perfectly efficient. Defense tends to be a little ahead of the offense as well. And IMO both defenses will have the advantage over their counterpart. You can see that most agree, the total has dropped 5 points.

Unless there's "fluke" plays like bad snaps resulting in turnovers, fumbles deep in your own territory, etc, I really don't think either team can pull away. Not with these defenses and not with the effort that will be put forth by both sides. This is going to be a HARD fought game. Can Miami make enough plays on offense in the 2nd half to both score points and not put the defense in terrible situations? I can see something like 23-20 Miami.

I would add breaking in a new RS Freshman QB that could be the face of UM Football for the next few years

To add to that, getting some stability and positive consistency on the Offensive Line--from a young offensive line--which inarguably has been the one unit Miami has struggled to build up for the better half of the last 20 years.
