This Offense is Legit

I said before the season that Dawson’s ability to adapt to his personnel would be very telling this season. This is more 2024 offense than 2025, yet people continued to say we need to pound the rock, be balanced, and we should trust the OL.

Throw the ball 40 times a game and I don’t think anyone can stop this aerial assault. We have arguably the #1 QB in the country and #1 WR in the country + a better version of Jacolby George in Barkate, solid young WRs in Moore and Upshaw, and a steady flow of capable RBs. Just missing the home run piece.

Make teams respect the passing attack and it’ll open up lighter boxes for the OL to at least churn out 4-5 yard runs.
People blame Dawson a air raid disciple when Mario is on tv with SVP saying we need to run no matter what if the box is loaded, lol...

And I tried telling people last year Dawson getting what he got out of that offense was one of his better coaching job.. I dont think people understand how many throws Beck did not pull trigger on that were big plays, soo much got stripped out of the offense.. WE ABOUT TO COOK...

NO DAWSON SLANDER!!!

The offense can be elite if the OL gels and improves. Run blocking was not as advertised tonight and the pass pro was shaky early on. Not impressed with either SJ or Buchanan. I would slide McCoy to RG, Cantwell to RT, and have Congdon take over at LG.
I’d at least start Cantwell at G. We’ve got four games to figure out this puzzle. I did not like us getting bullied inside as often as we did. I’d rather nitpick after a 45-6 drubbing than a stupid 38-27 type of game we would’ve played a few years ago.

Cam never went 27/30 for 400 and 5 TDs.
Cam had more arm talent but mensah is more accurate imo
He truly has a special feel for where to place the ball. He was dropping it in the zones perfectly every time, before Mali or anyone else made their cuts. They looked like they’ve played together 5 years instead of 6 months.

The run-blocking will look better once teams realize that not playing two-high against us is asking for Toney and/or Barkate to utterly dominate. I don't know wtf the Stanford DC was doing where Toney was wide open every time Mensah threw it to him.

Lighter boxes will mean we run the ball better.

Stanford was run blitzing alot, rpo was getting free yards

And like last year the run blocking got better as the season went on

Giving Barkate 1v1 matchups is just unfair. Such an easy read when we send 4 bunched up to one side and can get a favorable iso situation. Having the short passing game as an extension of the running game is exactly how you stay ahead of the chains, keep defenses honest, and ease your shaky OL into garnering more confidence. Simply moving the ball does wonders, even if they’re not asked to execute a lot in certain scenarios.

Your opinion is factual. For some reason, the world has completely lost the plot on QB play. The #1 attribute for a quarterback, especially at the collegiate level, is accuracy. Full stop. And it makes me feel like I’m taking crazy pills listening to these big brains hyping kids like Anthony Richardson and Will Levis and a billion other examples. A big kid with a big arm is NOT necessarily a great QB. You know who is? A kid who can stand decisively in a pocket and thread a ball 30 yards downfield into a thimble over and over and over.

Give me all the stock in that kid. That’s Darian Mensah. The ball comes out on time and it’s a dot, every **** play. When you have these weapons at your disposal, at this level, that skill gets you to NYC. And it seems like nobody gives a **** anymore. They just want 6’5 and can throw it through a brick wall. Accuracy is king. Go watch this kid at Tulane and Duke and good lord, tonight. It’s a clinic. We are gonna be really, really tough to beat with this dude back there.

I know it was Stanford but that little iso play to Barkate that he just ****ed on the DB was an eye opener. We used to run that a bit with Horton when Cam was here but it wasn’t consistent

If he can do that all year…pssh. You’re not going to be able to stop the pass attack

It’s too much projecting instead of what we already see..But like with cam after uf the narratives will shift our way lol

I thought McCoy was fine at RT tonight, but we are a much better run blocking OL with McCoy at Guard and Cantwell at RT. Maybe they think Cantwell isn't ready to pass block at RT yet? I hope he gets some game reps there next couple of games.

Yah it’s a great play. 4 man bunch formation on the opposite side ensures we get 1:1 on the other side. They also ran it with Moore. Both times successful.

Mensah, simply put, is as pure a thrower as we've ever had. Some of those throws were outright ridiculous for a season opener.

Lord, I'm going to just keep it positive, but good luck covering our receivers and you know, that one guy. Single game record, young man, he's the truth.

Saw Cantwell pull on the one play and was just like a kid that big shouldn’t be able to move like that

Freakish
