The ignorance is astounding.

This is NOT the first time the Air Raid has been tried in the SEC.

Hall Mumme, the godfather of the Air Raid, was HC at Kentucky from '97 to 2000. Leach was his OC for two of those seasons.

You wanna know what Kentucky's record was in SEC play with the godfather of the Air Raid at the helm? 10-22.

And that was their record because of the Air Raid? Because I don’t remember Tim Couch or the Hefty Lefty struggling to put points on anybody.

You're not gonna win a whole lot of football games if you can't keep the other team out of the end zone. Leach was 36-36 in the pac12. He's all style no substance.

OK, so they should have recruited a good defense at Kentucky, right? And then if Kentucky has a great defense, then maybe the defense gets the credit for winning all the games, and the Air Raid doesn't.

See how that works?
 
Leach hired an elite DC that was quickly hired away from him by the big boys.

It’s not like Washington State has this history of elite defenses and Leach just ruined that. It’s a school with very little talent. You can’t scheme around a lack of talent on defense like you can offense.

But it’s not like Leach isn’t willing to make an Alex Grinch type hire on defense.

It’s also weird that people are blaming Leach for the Kentucky lack of defense when he was just the OC, not the head coach. All he could control was the offense. And those Kentucky teams put some points on people.

Who's blaming Leach for Kentucky's lack of defense? I simply pointed out the fact that the Air Raid isn't new to the SEC and that Leach isn't gonna change the way the SEC plays football. He'll have one or two 9 or 10 win seasons and retire in a few years never having finished better than 3rd place in the West.

ETA: Since when is Alex Grinch an elite DC lol?

Yep, same elite Alex Grinch who's defense at ohio st finished 72nd in total defense with FOUR 1st round draft picks. Same defense the year after he leaves...#1. Alex Grinch!? LMFAO!

Are you nutty? Nobody "blamed" Leach for the Kentucky DC, we just pointed out that "Air Raid" isn't some magical incantation that suddenly wins you 80% of your games.

More importantly, you are talking about SEC defenses TWENTY YEARS AGO. If you think that Leach is sneaking up on SEC DCs now just because he has "Air Raid", you are sadly mistaken.

I dont know if everybody knows how well Cravin Moorehead recruited at MSU. He had more 4 stars in his first year than Mullen had during his entire tenure if I'm not mistaken. I'll give Leach credit for the QB he brought in, but he can pretty much plug in anybody into in his system it seems. MSU is pretty talented though and those guys should all have 1-2 years experience now too
