This is why we watch

Just want to mention this for perspective

We are 5-0 for the first time since 2017. We have started 5-0 only 4 times in 20 years. We are now 12-8 in ACC openers since 2004. This is the first time our season wasn’t over by October this decade. I’m taking the dub

Yep.

Team has some issues however this was a game that we would lose 99.9% of the time in previous years.

A combination of luck and tenacity paid off.

In my opinion the biggest let down was that our defensive line wasn’t as dominant…. To me that was the 3rd weakest offensive line we faced this year

I will say this - after watching Bama vs UGA last night - we still got a ways to go. UGA was missing a couple layers of OL and still made it happen.

Never forget.

Tim Tebow had to say this AFTER A LOSS.

"I'm sorry. Extremely sorry. We were hoping for an undefeated season. That was my goal, something Florida's never done here. But I promise you one thing, a lot of good will come out of this. You have never seen any player play as hard as I will play the rest of this season, and you'll never see someone push the rest of the team as hard as I will push everybody the rest of this season. You'll never see a team play harder than we will the rest of the season. God bless."

Your right. Taking the dub.

Been a fan way too long to share the same optimism going into this game that some of you on here were spouting.

I didn't touch the spread even though I was tempted.

The ACC has always been crazy and unpredictable. We are going to get every single teams best.

For all the macho chest thumpers, this is why some fans are still cautiously optimistic before crowning our beloved canes. It doesn't mean we're soft. It just means we've watched a lot of canes football lol

Parity is very real in this sport. With all that said, I still think we're a legit top 10-15 team and yesterday will hopefully spur something positive moving forward.

I still think we're going to make the playoffs, but we aren't blowing out every single ACC opponent like the early 2000 teams of ours
Someone else said VT exposed Team weaknesses. Boy did they. Gotta improve fellas not a good look. Don’t think we are as good yet as the hype.

Wait, so after all of these NIL signings we now learn - AFTER THIS GAME - that we have an "undersized" DLine? You're killing me...lol.
I thought the same thing. The fact that we may be undersized as a DL never really crossed my mind until @DMoney said that. We need Bain back ASAP.

Don't think we've played anyone yet who qualifies as "very good."

Every season there are some UM fans that say any team UM beats is, by default, not very good. Doesn’t matter if we beat a highly ranked opponent, the fact that they lost to Miami means they were overrated.

USF is a solid team. VT is better than their record indicates. And I’m sure I’ll get mocked for this , but I think UF is also better than their record indicates. They have a brutal schedule. Doesn’t mean they are garbage like FSU. I think they win next week vs UCF, who is also a decent team. I give them 50/50 odds against Kentucky and a 25% chance of beating Ole Miss. They will lose to Tennessee, UGA, and Texas. Those are all legit title contenders.UF will have a losing record, but it doesn’t mean UF is on FSUs “scraping the bottom of the barrel” level.

While I agree with you to a certain extent....

Florida is terrible, regardless of schedule. Ran through by a&m with a back up qb.

Ball state just got their **** pushed in by JMU, albeit jmu put up 70 on north carolina.

Usf just got their **** pushed in by Tulane. Very badly. After playing Bama and us well for periods.

VT was down big early in their two losses. One to Vanderbilt which is terrible. I think Rutgers is actually a pretty good team. We got VTs best so far this season.

VT is the best of those teams, even with a 2-3 record. On top of that, talent didn't pop off the screen. They out leveraged/schemed us and on many plays out efforted us.

Anyone can win, any one can lose. Any given Saturday. But I haven't seen anything from those opponents that makes me believe we've played anyone "good".

I think we're fine, size-wise.
This isn't the NFL....not every DLmen has to be 6,5/300plus.
It's a lack of execution by the players.
Yeah, we can definitely use Bain, but that's just one guy.
This is beyond one missing player.

Let's enjoy this one.

There is plenty to pick apart. Virginia Tech exposed a flawed team. But this is the type of game that makes fans.

My boys are 10 and 8. Despite their love of sports, they never wanted to watch the Canes. Saturdays meant boring games, players they've never heard of, and Papa yelling in frustration. Now, they can't stop talking about what they saw.

You had legitimate star players like Cam Ward and Xavier Restrepo making plays in front of a national audience. Fake FGs, deep FGs, big returns, laterals, Hail Mary, a loud Rock. We are blessed to have watched it.

- Much of the game felt like Georgia Tech. Turnovers and missed opportunities. Cam Ward and a good replay booth changed the story. In the post-game, Ward called it a "turning point in the season." Time will tell, but I believe him.

- There were a ton of NFL scouts in the building, and I'd bet the buzziest name is Elijah Arroyo. He ran like a thoroughbred, played physical, and is a walking advertisement of Mario's culture:

- We won't have to look far for Arroyo's replacement. Riley Williams showed he can run and continues to flash as an in-line blocker. He's huge.

- You could tell we were missing two of our best players. Reuben Bain's strength and finishing ability would have helped against the 234-pound Kyron Drones. I love Markel Bell's progression and future, but Jalen Rivers would have been more consistent against Virginia Tech's good pass rush.

- I'd expect teams to follow Virginia Tech's blueprint. Force Miami to tackle in space, take away the run, challenge the WRs to beat you deep, and capitalize on mistakes.

- Tough game for Miami's linebackers. I hope we give Kiko Mauigoa some more breathers. He is a big guy and plays so hard. He's already a little stiff in his hips, so when he gets tired he can look bad in space. I want him full energy and making impact plays in the backfield.

- Virginia Tech played incredible. They aren't consistent or well-coached, but they have a high ceiling by ACC standards. We got their best shot. Drones gave our undersized front four major problems with his size.

- Defensively, we get Bain back but are pretty beat up. Simeon Barrow, Jaden Harris and Elijah Alston all missed time (Barrow got some snaps late). True freshmen like Justin Scott and Zaquan Patterson were getting crunch time snaps. I wonder if a guy like Armondo Blount is next up.

- In a secondary that lacks impact talent, I continue to be impressed by OJ Frederique. He pulled the trigger and made a great tackle on a screen, and his phantom PI was great coverage. We would be in deep trouble without him.

- I'm not too worried about the offense. We scored five touchdowns and put up 508 yards. The turnovers were a good wake-up call for a player getting so much Heisman hype. We do lack a truly dynamic, Santana Moss-type playmaker that scares defenses. It's easy to see why Chris Johnson, Jr. is on the fast track.

Last year, we started 4-1. And the 1 felt like ten. We are 5-0. Let's enjoy it.

Happy for your kids Dmoney, my kids root for the canes but never watch and its too late they waited and waited and got interested in other things.

I didn't say I thought our DL was too small. Just that the thought had never crossed my mind before.

We need Bain back but again I wasn't implying that Bain returning will be some magical panacea for this defense as you are right. These issues go much deeper than one player. Be that as it may, we need Bain back desperately because our DL is getting worn down a bit.

What bothered me the most about the defense was that VT was able to out leverage us consistently with outside runs and by scheming their bigger guys on our smaller guys in space. We were out coached from a schematic standpoint on both sides. It's just that our offense with Cam the magic man is too good.

Offense needs to continue evolving and improve execution, which means taking what's there and protecting the football. The call of the night was the play-pass on 3rd & 1 with 23 personnel.

We've been a bit finesse on offense; I want to see Fletcher, Martinez, Arroyo, Willams seeking contact at the end of runs and finishing through defenders.
