I think Al threatened to leave if he wasn't extended. I believe he used the NCAA investigation to his benefit for the first time when he bullied his way into an extension.

Again, does that mean we shoot ourselves in the foot with the buyout? You can extend him till 2054 it wouldn't matter if the buyout is in our favor.
What's funnier is that Golden isn't making coaching changes. AFTER going 6-7, who is that stubborn?
He is daring them to fire him
It's actually a genius move by that fat dope. He knows he's finished here, so he stands nothing to gain and much to lose by being a scapegoater.
By staying loyal to his corches he knows he'll always have them as allies when he's looking for work. He can also float the idea that he got fired for refusing to scapegoat instead of for being an abject failure.

I know people are going to claim to know numbers about the buyout. I tend not to trust them.
I will say this, the strategy of paying later to save money will cost the school more.
- Less donations,
- Less ticket sales,
- Less merchandise sales,
- Less alternative revenue from games (i.e. parking and concessions), and
- Another down year for the program. We're essentially throwing in the towel before we snapped the ball if we say AL IS OUR MAN IN 2015.
or
Change everything now and bring in the right guy, perhaps you keep recoup the buyout money RIGHT away. I will say this, we make a lot more money now (athletics) then when we signed the extension. A lot more money.

I read something on another board that made sense.....Golden isn't gonna make any coaching changes because good coaches know that he's out after next year. He wouldn't be able to attract any good assistants so just stick with what you got. .

And lets not kid ourselves its not like there was going to be an opportunity for someone to make a move up. What position is a move up to be a DL/OL/WR coach for a dead beat coach. If he would fire the OC or DC or both then you might find some guys interested in those jobs. Especially if they do a good job they could be in a great spot to take the HC gig if only for a month or so.. but a great audition none the less....Only problem is AG doesn't wanna fire either of those two for whatever reason and therefore will go down with the ship... I just wish we could launch a missile and take out the ship sooner rather than later...
It's not about the money....
Huge stare down going on here......
Al doesn't want to be here and Miami doesn't want him there.....
From Miami's perspective...they fire Al and he wins. They have given him every opportunity to at least give the impression that he is willing to appease the masses but he has told them to f**k off.
They also know that Al despises every day he has to spend here. He hates it here...Al thought he could win here simply based on the talent in SFLA alone. He had no idea how dirty recruiting is down here, especially with a hand tied behind your back.
Once he realized talent alone could not win.....he tried to leave town when he still had some market value; however, it was too late.
Now Al has zero market value. The guy (Eichorst) who thought highly enough of him to extend him through 2020 didn't even call him when the Nebraska job came open.
The BOT is basically torturing Al at our expense. There is a very dangerous game going on right now.

LULZ at Folden threatening to leave after a 6-6 season with a roster jammed with NFL talent. Where was he going? And why would we care?
Folden didn't have any actual power in that scenario. UM gave him power because they're incompetent trust fund buffoons with no clue about real world negotiating.

It was stupid but that's exactly what happened. He was being mentioned for other jobs.
Any chance Al's buyout is less after January 1st and we are holding out until then to save a few bucks? This entire situation is so insane, this is the only thing I can come up with that makes some semblance of sense (though it is still incredibly cheap of the school and shortsighted.) I cannot fathom any situation where Al is the coach next year. No man can live everyday life in such a toxic environment. As much as he is killing (or killed) our program, the current atmosphere, which isn't going to change as long as he is here, has to be killing him and his family (not that I feel bad in anyway for him). This thing has got to come to a breaking point soon. It has to, Right?
