What is even more insane is the fact each year under Golden the team has regressed. They quit when times get tough and for some reason Golden thinks it's the players still. I bet after Virginia he already threw in the towel himself thinking "well, another year of clock punchers" when in fact it's because of him and his awful coaching staff. After each season he thinks he's gonna have "renewed" attitudes and that is the reason they will start winning. He thinks they lose because the players are selfish and don't have the right attitudes. Well after 4 years of the same **** and getting the same results it is INSANE.

By staying loyal to his corches he knows he'll always have them as allies when he's looking for work. He can also float the idea that he got fired for refusing to scapegoat instead of for being an abject failure.

I read something on another board that made sense.....Golden isn't gonna make any coaching changes because good coaches know that he's out after next year. He wouldn't be able to attract any good assistants so just stick with what you got. .

I know people are going to claim to know numbers about the buyout. I tend not to trust them.

I will say this, the strategy of paying later to save money will cost the school more.

- Less donations,
- Less ticket sales,
- Less merchandise sales,
- Less alternative revenue from games (i.e. parking and concessions), and
- Another down year for the program. We're essentially throwing in the towel before we snapped the ball if we say AL IS OUR MAN IN 2015.

Change everything now and bring in the right guy, perhaps you keep recoup the buyout money RIGHT away. I will say this, we make a lot more money now (athletics) then when we signed the extension. A lot more money.

And lets not kid ourselves its not like there was going to be an opportunity for someone to make a move up. What position is a move up to be a DL/OL/WR coach for a dead beat coach. If he would fire the OC or DC or both then you might find some guys interested in those jobs. Especially if they do a good job they could be in a great spot to take the HC gig if only for a month or so.. but a great audition none the less....Only problem is AG doesn't wanna fire either of those two for whatever reason and therefore will go down with the ship... I just wish we could launch a missile and take out the ship sooner rather than later...

That's a fair point but not always true.
I look at Rutgers after last season, and their coach was forced to scapegoat and fire assistants, and he actually brought in some good
assistants in Ralph Friedgen as OC and Mitch Browning, a very good Oline coach.

Heck, after Coker purged his staff after 2005 season, he did find a good Dline coach in Palermo, whom Shannon should've kept
on when he took over.

You can find coaches out there.

I think Franchise's theory is what his driving this.
Golden comes from the old StatePenn school where you didn't fire assistant coaches.
And at this point he is going to stick to his guns.
Really, the ball is in the school's court.
It is not Golden's job to clean this up.

Folden didn't have any actual power in that scenario. UM gave him power because they're incompetent trust fund buffoons with no clue about real world negotiating.

If this is true, then this is very juvenile on their part, and not a great message to send to any prospective new coach.
If money isn't that big of an issue, then fire him and move on.
But I think it's about the money because, after all, didn't Randy Shannon have to take these clowns after he was fired?

He was being mentioned by his own agent. Oldest trick in the book, and UM fell for it. They're dumb, and so is anyone who thought Folden had any power or heat coming off that horrible first season.
