This is a TEAM loss

Speaking of penalties, that PI call on Ivey was HORRIBLE.
Yes because the guy seemed to tear his groin on his own but the official fell for it.
Howell, a true freshman burned our DBs on at least 5-6 deep balls. Inexcusable.

Please elaborate on this? Enos has been an OC and HC before.

Baker a DC before.

So how are our coaches learning on the job?

Well, I hope to God they are learning. Sure does seem that someone making decisions has never done this before

I'm hurt
I'm sick
I'm tired

BUT

I don't believe everything is bad.

Going back to the teams of the Shannon era all the way to the Richt, our teams go down 17-3, they fold and it turns into 30-3 real quick.

This team found a way to come back and take the lead late. That is a positive, and a glimpse of what we have.

I believe that we have the pieces, and I can see clear improvement in areas that have sucked for a while now.

I can't excuse the bad play by Baxa, the inconsistency of our defense, and our ability to finish. I can't excuse the blown coverages, the missed tackles, and the drops by guys who should be making catches. I can't excuse the defense looking like they are still in the sandpits on Greentree. I can't excuse our game planning and ability to be prepared for our games.

I can't place this loss on a single person because where we lost was in so many areas. We need to get our speed on defense. I seem to remember when our LBs could beat RBs to the edge. UNC's biggest plays were when our guys bit and fell down. Baker has to adjust to this. Neither Bandy nor Ivey (Not taking away from their talent but) are world class sprinters, he has to give them help over top. Instead of rolling out a LB or Romeo Finley to cover, why not bring in Blades, Williams, or Smith?

I have a lot of feelings running through me right now. I am frustrated, but excited. Jarren, Brevin, KJ, the OL, the RBs all played to Miami standard; besides a few plays we left out there, our offense has improved vastly.

For I don't know how long, I can't remember a time where we played lights out in all phases of the game. Where we have out coached a team.

I want Manny to be the guy, but he's got to have the team prepared. Especially on two weeks of planning.

It's Still All About The U....

“This team found a way to come back and take the lead late. That is a positive, and a glimpse of what we have.”

I’d be okay with that if Manny said this is a bit of a rebuild due to youth and culture change, BUT Manny has said the exact opposite in which my expectations are going 10-2 or 11-1 because of that. Don’t talk a big game because it’s what the fans want.

I’ve also heard a few rumblings on social media from guys that are involved and others that know kids about Booster Pressure to play certain kids or unhappy kids because of decisions coaches are making. ALL I’ll Have to say is Manny better get that crap in check and say ***** all of them because none of that matters if he’s winning, WIN they will STFU he’s going to be just another fired coach at Miami if he tries to make people happy

We found a way to lose two weeks in a row. We didn’t lose because of a dropped pass or a missed fg. Manny has never done this before. He loss to a far inferior team whose coach handed the win to him - just like last week.

Not being able to set the edge was a far more contributing factor to losing than a missed FG or dropped pass

Mallory is proven pass dropper. Baxa was literally shaking and having a panic attack on the sideline. That’s as much on the coaches as the Mallory and Baxa

Ok.

Good write up OP. Now that my emotions are tempered, I do see improvements from the UF game. The D is what really surprised me. It seems like the LBs are non existent and the DL isn’t playing the penetrating scheme. A lot of 3 down w one standing. I’m no expert but it seems a lot different. Is it young players or has baker changed the scheme? The O is evolving and I thought played much better than I’ve seen here in many years. Im not gonna beat a dead horse but BaXa should only do kick offs and real long fgs. Someone on the team should be accurate from 20 and closer. Blocks look like low kicks to my untrained eye. Drops killed us too. JT long ball, HT took one off the chest and Mallory on the 2 pt. Those are peewee league catches. I’d run the feck outta those guys this morning...I think we’ll continue to grow and get a few wins under our belt will help the confidence

The offense is fine. Best its looked in years already by game 2. We will learn how to finish as the season continues. It's a shame that Baxxa and the defense is overshadowing what is one the most positive things to happen to Miami in a very long time. It looks like we have a real QB.

But man, ST is going to continue to cost us points this year and OP perfectly summed up the defense. It's not a pretty sight whatsoever and won't be fixed in a couple of weeks.

The offense “looks” better but is still struggling to put up points in the end zone.

We have scored 25 and 20 through two games.

Which brings us to 22.6 points per game. Last year that number puts us at 106 ranked scoring offense after Ball State.

That’s terrible. We averaged 24.8 points per game last season which was ranked 90th in scoring.

By the way in 2018 42 teams averaged 30 or more points per game. If we do that we are 2-0 right now.

Complain about the defense if you want but we still need to score more points is the bottom line.

Top 25 was 33 points a game and the top 10 scoring offenses all averaged over 40.

Just get us to 30 and if we lose the game that’s on the defense.

Through two games we’ve allowed 25.5 points per game. That would have ranked 42 last year.

Last year our defense allowed 21.1 points per game which was ranked 21st in the country.

It's been 2 games bub. Some perspective would be nice.

Agreed. Our redzone offense is still a disgrace.

I know we have to wait how the season finished. I’m just showing the stats as of right now. We could roll and drop 30+ points on teams the rest of the way.

Just showing early returns don’t show the offense being that much better. Maybe in yards but not in the thing that matters the most like points.

Add to this that statistically speaking September bye weeks are usually bad for a team’s performance coming off the bye.

Also, it was hard to tell but, it looked like we had a block, so why did Harley run out of bounds instead of trying to get more on the last drive?
We also had 3 timeouts. Drop your shoulder and fall forward. An extra 5 yards would've been picked up easily.

Brevin is another one that seems shy to contact.

Which is weird because he usually runs pretty hard and tries to go for more yards. But last night he ducked off outta bounds.

30+ points was there yesterday if not for one particular *******

Yeah man. I swear we don’t have to be a juggernaut if we scored 30 a game last year Richts still here.

Schedule still weak AF though. We’ll see if the team can put it together or if they’ll let this loss cause locker room cancer.

Your stats last year include numbers against all teams in all games.
You're basing your numbers on 1 road game and 1 neutral game with a QB making his first two starts.
JW will continue to get better and we have shown to play better at home.
I'm making ZERO excuses for the offense, but that is too small of a sample size for me.

I'm not going to overreact to these numbers just like I'm not going to overreact when we score a buck-twenty in our next 2 games to get our average to 40+ ppg.

Just like OP pointed out, they had two weeks to prepare for this game. Manny says it’s all about accountability, well we are going to see how much he means it? How long are special teams going to consistently lose games for the U? How long is he going to tolerate his team playing down to the level of the competition (newsflash) that was not a good football team they lost to last night.

Not sure how the offense is fine? Offense's job is to score points. UM is not lighting up the scoreboard. Will not be where it needs to be until OL can be dominant. Looks like that may be two years away. Playing two 1st year guys, one second and two third year.

Left way too many points on the board man. This team needs to start every game with a sense of urgency man.
