This Defense could be dominant

It's way to early to know about this D. I have hope and believe we can jump into a top 25 D which would be a huge jump in itself. I need to know for sure our WR's are for real and truly testing this D. We should have a better feel late in the 2nd week when we start knowing who's going to be starting or getting a lot of snaps. Need pads on for that. As of now Moten looks like the guy at DT, but pads aren't on yet. I believe Moten and Scott will be the starters and Blay 2nd team, but my opinion doesn't matter. We shall see.
That’s actually encouraging to hear

We only have 3 trustworthy guys at DT. That's a problem.
Armondo Blount will be the 4th DT. We have to remember that he arrived as a 260 16 year old and is now 18 closing in on 280 and can easily be 300 by 2026. If he had not reclassified he would have been a 6-4 275, 5 star DT for the class of 2025.

This idea that he will be a DE is crazy, his frame screams DT. Think Gerald Willis with more power.

I honestly don’t think so. ND is too one dimensional, get a few early stops and go up by 14, that game is over. Miami isn’t small and slow anymore, you got 6-2 200 Lucas running 10.5 and 6-0 195 Scott running 10.7 on the field at the same time. I get it Jeremiyah Love is a very talented player, but he was stopped a lot last season.

Louisville and Clemson (in the championship) will be the test.
ND may have a better passing attack than you think. Especially if they establish the run.

That’s because we were probably near the bottom or top (depending on how you look at it) in defensive scoring drive time of possession. Hard to lose the TOP battle when you’re giving up 80 yard TDs on swing passes.
So what you’re saying is, if our defense was better and we got our opponents off the field faster, our TOP would have gone down?

The thing that scares me the most about this defense is how much more excited I’m getting about it every day.

As president and CEO of Can Never Have One Single ******* Nice Thing, LLC, this can’t be good.
Big Heatherman guy here

I keep telling myself new DC and basically new defense it’s gonna take some time to gel

But I can’t help myself

I watched Carrs Highlights and I liked what he was doing. Kid could be a legit player for them this year. BUT.....

I don't think he will be able to avoid making some huge mistakes in his 1st start in a game of this magnitude. Especially if our passrush and DBs are legit. He will be a net negative for them even if he flashes in the game.

I mean, like, maybe, just maybe, take an absurd amount of talent on the defensive line, some really athletic linebackers, and this part will self destruct in 30 seconds but one of the better corner groups in the country (not best, but pretty **** good?) and field a competent defense? One that can possibly not force our offense to be perfect every week and win a game by itself? Are we allowed to have that?

Do not discount ND. They will be a very tough out.

I will say this, I believe we're going to play with violence. One of my top concerns coming out of last year is we had no real tone setters on the defense. Kiko was solid but I don't remember any bone crushing hits. No one else put the fear of god in ball carriers. I think Toure and Thomas are those dudes. And now we have Bain back.

I didn’t not think the defense would instantly turn around with Guidry. The team was not as talented. 2023 defense had one 5 stars on it, and he was being played out of position because the talent was so bad 🤦🏾‍♂️. This 2025 defense has four 5 stars, it’s just not the same. This is completely different.
How many 5 stars 2017 had?

I am all onboard with Hstokes1447.

I am expecting a turnaround on defense similar to when Diaz took over from NoD. Heatherman can actually teach his defense based on the quick turnaround Minnesota made on D last year with lesser talent against better competition.

Not only is the talent better on our D this year, but the scheme fit and communication will be drastically better. There won’t be constant DL stunts vs players getting up the field, which limited our players ability. Has anybody seen the smiles on Bain, Mesidor and others’ faces when talking about this defense?

Honest question for those who have their doubts. How can our D not improve drastically based on what we saw last year? This season on D will be reminiscent of when Diaz took over from NoD, no doubt in my mind.

It can turn around quick when you got the pieces and get some juice at coordinator. The improvements the O made from Gattis to Dawson in Y1 was insane tbh.

Just because I’m bored. Let’s compare the abomination from D’onofrio to Manny. Expect similar jump with 25 defense.

Canes 2015 defense (national rank)
PPG Allowed: 28.2 (77th)
YPG: 404 (70th)
YPP: 5.8 (85th)

Canes 2016 defense
PPG allowed: 18.5 (12th)
YPG: 346.5 (20th)
YPP: 4.8 (11th)

And a more “efficient” offense, we might be cooking with something

A full yard less per play is wild

Idk about dominant.

But they should be better than last year.

Everything will come down to how fast they can adjust in season once teams figure out our weaknesses on film & start attacking it.
I believe by the time that happens, we should have the more talented side of the football prior to ACCCG.

I think we should have a physical advantage as well assuming we’re rotating at DL / DB. Those legs get real heavy in November playing every snap… as you know of course.
