This Defense could be dominant

We were 14th in time of possession last year. Not sure how much more time our defense needs to rest but they were on the field for less time than 120 FBS teams.
It’s just fan fiction to cope lol

Anybody thinking our offense affected our defense last year is just delusional.

“Defense should be on the field less” just the usual off season cope

I keep watching Minnesota vs Penn State and imagining Miami players in those same roles. I know we are all suffering from PTSD of 20 years of being trash, but this Miami talent in Hetherman’s scheme could be scary.

Minnesota vs Penn State

Minnesota vs USC

If we had one 6-4 325 DT in the rotation and I would be shouting lies. At worst we should expect a 2017 Danny Miaz type turn of around, and a defense like that with this offense puts this team in the playoffs.

ToP + stacked classes + getting better today + understanding what the U means on the side of the helmet = watch out 2037 season

They played UNC and Va Tech and held them both to under 20 points. They also played USC and held them to 17. Penn State held SMU to 10 points. I think that the "BIG10 defenses can't adapt" is not true anymore.
I did not know that.

UNC and VTech, weren't very good, but the USC and SMU, that's very interesting. But now I'm picking stats which I shouldn't do. Give me positive hope.

It's not is much the Big10 defense can't adapt, I was just thinking, stylistically, if your used to one you don't have as much experience vs another is all.

It would be one thing if we were going three and out all the time and the defense was getting gassed but not only were we the highest scoring team in the country, we gave our defense a ton of rest. All they had to do was not be absolute trash and we would have been a championship contender. They couldn’t even handle that.

If we can hold most teams to 20 or under we're winning a lot of games.

I posted a thread about this a long time ago but one thing I look at with DCs is what they do compared to the other teams average

I did average yards but I think points was the same story

IIRC Minnesota held just about everyone under their averages

Couple weird anomalies (like giving up a ton of late points in a blowout) but in general they were better against other teams than the majority of the rest of the country

That is asking for a lot, imo. Defense will improve but fans need to be rational about the progress of this side of the ball. 26’ may be the year we hold top tier teams to that because the roster will be more loaded.
Yea that's why I qualified with the "if." But people may not think holding UNC and VT to 20 is all that impressive, but if we're doing that to those kinds of teams we're winning those games.

It is impressive but personally, and this is just my take, I don’t put too much stock into one season. Penn State fans think Diaz is a good DC because of their success with him the 2 years he was there. Fools gold. Mario needs to hit with Heathermam so I hope you’re right.
