Thin line between success and failure

When looking at this season you can't call it a success because of that dreadful 4 game stretch in October. The failure seems so profound because of that devastating stretch of losses to teams that weren't really better than us.

Not making any excuses or pumping sunshine. This 4 game win streak actually makes the failures that much more bitter. This 4 game winning streak shows what we were capable of during that losing streak had we abandoned the heavy reliance on that ****** RPO system and made subtle tweaks to the OL earlier like getting an injured and physically overmatched Linder out of the lineup quicker. We waited too **** long to make those two subtle moves, and that's likely what cost us the Coastal. That poor kid Linder got absolutely brutalized by that ND DT Jones, but that just shined a brighter light on what was happening to him all season.

That stretch and being out of the Coastal race so early left most of us with such a bad taste in our mouths that the season felt like a ****.

Before the season, I said Rick and the season would be a fail if we didn't win the Coastal and 10 games. As it has played out, we've got a shot to win 9 and lost the Coastal by 1 game. So had we won a single additional Coastal game the season would have been a success at least to me. That's a razor thin line. It's not like we won 5 games and totally sprayed ***** everywhere. We missed our legit goals by 1 game, and a couple of those games came down to a play or two.

Bright side is Rick showed the willingness to dump that RPO **** that Kaaya looked so uncomfortable running. Defense also looks like it can be at least an ACC Championship defense. I don't think we're as overwhelming defensively as a team like Clemson can be. But we have a chance to get there. We really need to add at least one plug and play JUCO CB and a solid grad transfer CB because it would be a mortal sin to waste that front 7 next year with a horse **** CB play.

Richt **** the bed.

Brian Kelly, Jimbob Cooter, Fuente, and Fedora all **** in his mouth.

The season kind of fit a Richt coached team to a T. Beat some teams who arent very good, play some close close games vs good teams and lose. I want to see him consistently win the big games.

Richt is a corch. Season was a disaster. We beat a 4-8 Duke team to make us feel better. Any team with a pulse beat Richt and made him look like a fool.

I agree. I thought it was encouraging yesterday that Richt said, after playing in the coastal this year, that he thinks we should be dominant in it every year. I know that is what we all believe, but I had not heard our previous two coaches really say that.

I'll take 8-4 after the last 5 garbage years of Folden,I believe their is a bright future ahead.

The season was definitely disappointing in the middle but if they can finish out with a 5 game win streak I'll be a lot happier for the future. In the recent past who knows how bad that losing streak would have become with no adjustments. The team exercised some daemons this year, with a good recruiting class we as fans have a lot to look forward to.

I give you a team that has spent a decade plus demonstrating nothing but underperformance and quitting in the face of adversity. I thought of this year as year zero. It's gravy if we make a run at the ACC championship game, but it wasn't a make or break for me. We have the talent, I just didn't think we'd have the mental readiness you need from a champion in Richts first year. Yup October sucked. Compare this with Adam Gase, started 1-4, but Fins fans knew the team was filled with softies since Philbin ran out any alpha males who dared challenge him (you can see this yourself On Hard Knocks) . Took a few games, but players finally stopped fighting Gase and they went on six game win streak. We turned it around too. Everything looked better in November: play calling, qb play, run game, defense, and most importantly ol blocking. We are trending in the right direction. In any case, even if we went 10-2, we weren't making playoffs this year, and I care about national championships, not ACC championship appearances (where we likely get blasted by Clemson). So whether we go 8-4 and miss playoffs or 10-2 and miss playoffs, end result is the same, no national championship. All I care about year zero is whether the young guys who will form the foundation of the championship run are developing. Richards, the Lb trio, the DL, the answer is 1000% yes. I'd go so far as to say we have the most talented core of freshman in the country right now. This season was just to just shake out the mediocrity, get non hackers to transfer early to open up scholarships for truly productive players. We are well positioned for next year.

I agree. Absolutely need to get a grad transfer CB. Wouldn't mind a transfer on the OL either.
Hopefully Kaaya decides to stay. As infuriating as he is sometimes, there is no question he gives us the best opportunity to win the ACC. He's a projected 1st round pick for a reason.

But biggest reason this was a good first year was that for the first time I was excited to watch every game, and I'm even more excited for next season; And I don't think the coaches are going to completely ruin it.

I think OP needs to stop posting opinions on what he thinks Coach Richt needs to stop doing when you clearly don't have a clue.

As for this year, do some of you realize how many freshmen we played; how many injuries there were? Did you watch the UM-OSU game yesterday & see how many SENIORS were playing on both sides of the ball? How close we were in 3 of the 4 we lost bodes well for the coming years. Richt is on the right track.

A few subtle changes and the offense is significantly better. It's not just the level of opponents because FSU, UNC and Notre Dame all have garbage defenses. So, in one hand, it's great that the coaches have been willing and able to make adjustments. On the other hand, it's disappointing that it took so long to make the changes.

No one was questioning whether we are on the path to success or not. It's very clear we have been better this year than any year under Golden, and with less talent and more youth.

The OL was in miserable shape when Searles started, it took most of the season to get them in the right direction which is not unusual for an OL. In all honesty I as well as many others didn't expect significant Contributions from those who stepped in and played well in the latter part of the season. There is light at the end of the tunnel with a few more capable players
