All 3 "ranked" G5 teams now have departing coaches. Does the committee unrank JMU, UNT, and Tulane due to their departures? That frees up one spot.

Duke winning frees up another spot.
Texas Tech beating BYU again, another spot.
UGA beating Bama, another spot.

Then you have all the BS of ND vs Miami vs ....

Duke winning doesn't free up any spots. The 5 highest ranked conference champions get in. Its not 5 highest ranked conference champions in the top 25. If Duke wins and the final ranking places Duke 35th and there is another G5 school ranked 33rd, that team gets in. They rank outside of 25, they jut publish the "top" 25. There will always be 5 conference champs with auto bids in the current format. There is no chance of there not being a 5th conference champ in the "top" 25 and an extra at large bid opens up.

if Duke wins and isn't ranked, and the other G5 champ wins and isn't ranked, there's a chance an extra "at large" opens up..
the criteria says "5 highest ranked conference champs"
basically, what if there are only 4 ranked conference champs?

ok that's what I've been wondering..

does the CFP actually rank past 25? how do you know?

The rankings go beyond 25, they just publish the TOP 25. So if the 5th conference champ is ranked 32nd, they still get in.

how do you know that? are you just assuming? because I don't see anything that says there's a ranking beyond the top 25...

That wasn’t his point. His point was that assuming Duke wins and it’s AAC and Sun Belt taking the last two auto bids, would the committee want to completely leave out a P4 conference or just put Miami there as the final at large to not have that be the case.

Whether I agree with it or not is a different discussion, but the point wasn’t that it opens up another spot, just that it may influence their decision for the final at large.

I listened to his show, I don't think the committee gives one smidge of one **** about leaving out the ACC entirely.
 
There is no scenario where only 4 conference champions make it to the playoffs, it will always be 5 no matter what. So there is no possibility of an additional at large spot coming open.

He also said he was going to address the ND-Miami argument on his show and never did.

Probably because of all the coaching news.

It’s a shame….we could have used his support. We know he’s already on our side.
