MEGA There’s Still Hope for the ACCCG/CFB Playoffs Mega Merge Thread

I want total chaos!

Duke, Troy, Boise St, Jax St & Miami, OH all win

Duke might get in if all that happens

The subjectivity of the committee is completely biased.

The narrative of "Miami has 2 bad, unranked losses" has stuck since they first happened. But both SMU and Lou could both be ranked, if the committee wanted to. It's like a self fulfilling narrative.

They're both going to be top 30 teams by pretty much every metric but they're "unranked". If they were top 25 teams they'd be ranked.m and we'd have 2 ranked losses.
Miami is 7 in FPI, ahead of Georgia, A&M, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, and BYU. SMU is 24 in FPI and Louisville is 29. Virginia is 40 and Duke is 46.

Miami is 6 in Sagarin, ahead of all those teams above plus Alabama. SMU is 21 and Louisville 27. Virginia is 34 and Duke is 45.

ND is 3 and 2, respectively.

The problem here as @Ghandi said is not ND, but SEC bias. The SEC games over the weekend confirmed that the conference is majorly overrated. Georgia struggled with GT, barely mustering 200 yards of offense. SCe lost to Clemson by 14. UK got destroyed by Louisville. The two "signature wins" of Alabama and OU were over coachless teams that could barely throw forward passes and were aided by penalties and ridiculous blown coverages. It was ugly.

SEC is not a conference that deserves almost half of the playoff spots. In a just system, the SEC would take a major hit this week and the rankings would be more closely aligned with the computer rankings. But we all know that will never happen. We need to hope for BYU and Bama to get blown out and even then we are probably on the outside looking in.

Bama is 1000% getting in. They could lose 70-0 and the committee would be forced to put them in or else Sankey would threaten to cancel the SEC championship moving forward.

Miami is done barring a miracle change of heart by the committee about Miami's H2H win over Notre Dame.

As frustrating as it is I could see this year being the reason the playoff gets expanded and/or conference champion auto-bids are removed.

If Duke wins & subsequently remains with a low ranking, could the committee take Miami as an at large bid?

(Because Duke wouldn’t be ranked high enough to get an automatic qualifier bid)

No. Five conference champs get in no matter what. If Duke wins ACC unless complete chaos in G6 games, two of their champs would get in.
