MEGA There’s Still Hope for the ACCCG/CFB Playoffs Mega Merge Thread

not worried about vandy, no way they get in over us if apples are apples and we handle business, they may lose to tennessee anyways

bama is IN unless they lose to auburn

Oklahoma is IN unless they lose to Missouri or LSU

that leaves Utah, BYU, and Us out

this will spur change because if ND gets into over us, it'll be the most egregious blatant disregard of what's supposed to matter in college football that's happened in a long time. Even with the FSU thing, they should have gotten in but that was an extenuating circumstance... this would be ignoring head to head and common opponent with no major injuries or dynamic shift and we'd have been on a roll for a month

All due respect, literally no one will care. 98% of the country would want ND in. A few talking heads would pound the table for about an hour, and it’d fade away. It would promote zero change. Just hot, empty air.

Obviously I don’t agree with any of that and do agree with you, I’m just telling you how it will go. I’m old and I’ve been following this stuff for a long, long time. ND at 10-2 is in and if that means Miami at 10-2 is out, well, that’s just the cost of doing business.

Why is everyone else allowed to lose games but us? I understand your point, but we’re not Ohio State. We’re not going to kill everyone.

Go look at the records of teams in the top 15. Most teams have “bad” losses or close wins against bad teams.

Seems we’re held to a higher standard than a lot of other teams.
Exactly, this is what frustrates me so much

1 out of the 11 experts (David Hale) predicting on ESPN have us making it as an at large at this point.

The committee will move us up 1 spot. If we win out we’ll get to the 11 or 12 spot and that’s as far as it will go. We’ll get bumped for conference champions and that’ll be it.

There is simply no excuse for Texas to be ranked where they are with a TERRIBLE loss to Florida. The same Florida team we steamrolled.

This is what the SEC does. They get all these teams ranked, undeservedly so, then when they all get 2-3 losses, they point to all the ranked wins. I call BS.

Texas now has three losses, and one is to a Florida team we destroyed. Alabama has two losses, and one of them is to an FSU team we dominated.

Sick of their inflated rankings ******** everyone else.
The SEC reasoning is how well they play in OOC games early in the season.
Of course they forget the clunkers (FSU/Bama) that should affect CFBPO positioning.

Nice write up. After overall W-L, you mention head to head and common opponents as being the next two factors. How does SOS play into it and quality of losses?

We are going to jump 3 spots, from 15 to 12, passing Utah and Vandy, because we beat a 5-5 NC State? From your lips to gods ears but, nah. Definitely not Utah. They blew out a 5-5 team today too and were 2 spots ahead of us. How do you justify us leaping them? Vandy…maybe. But if they beat an 8-3 Tennessee team ranked in the top ~17 or so they’re just gonna jump us right back.

We need these teams to lose. Vandy, Utah, probably Bama or OU too.

The way the committee does rankings is not in some static fashion week to week where you’d have to jump teams based on where they were ranked the week prior.

It’s not like the AP or Coaches’ Poll in terms of “jumping” teams. It’s much more fluid.

Miami is on the minds of the committee for the playoff much more than Utah is.

We pass the eye test for them in terms of talent. The perception is Miami is one of the most talented teams in the country.

According to them, what they want to see is more consistency from Miami.

This means that if Miami closes out strong we have a good shot (big if). Teams like Utah and Vandy are not the issue.

If Miami keeps playing they way they did yesterday, then our at large hopes could come down to Auburn vs Alabama at Jordan-Hare and Mizzou and LSU at Oklahoma. If that doesn’t fall our way then the remaining possibility is the ND head to head.

You keep claiming ND is a lock, but since these rankings are fluid, if Miami closes out strong, then there is a possibility the committee re-evaluates the head to head for the final spot. A 10-2 ND is not a lock in that scenario.

Bingo. A head to head to win should ALWAYS carry more weight than any other metric. Any attempt to justify putting Notre Dame ahead of us SHOULD BE shot down immediately with "Miami beat Notre Dame". Full stop.

"They're a different team now."

Doesn't matter. Miami beat Notre Dame.

"If the game had been played on a neutral field or in South Bend.."

Doesn't matter. Miami beat Notre Dame.

"If they played today, the results would be different."

Doesn't matter. Miami beat Notre Dame.
You left out..."They would be favored by 5 1/2"
Doesn't matter. Miami beat Notre Dame and was a 3 1/2 point dog the first time around.

Not to be a mope but I’m not using my brain cells or time to figure this out but in the end… we will be left out.

The SEC money machine is spreading their propaganda. When I heard Kirk herbstreit saying a 3 loss Texas may still make it. I knew it was over

We are in a dumb*ss conference that screws over their chances of maximizing how many teams they get in

The sooner you realize, the better
Three loss Texas with… a common opponent that we beat and beat them.

A 3 loss sec team is going to get in over a 2 loss acc team. Only hope is to make ACC championship and win that game.
Exactly. They told us last season a 2 loss Miami isn’t making the playoffs. We knew this going into the season

Unfortunately, a lot of games did not go our way and OU winning blows. The SEC has its hands wrapped around ESPN and college football. They are going to get the most teams in the playoffs and ***** over teams in other conferences. Miami must leave the ACC immediately. I can’t stress it enough. ****, ACC may not even get a team in playoffs.

Miami screwed itself losing its games, unfortunately.
