The Work: South Florida Express Edition

LOL. If Scarlett decommits to UF, it will be a future multi-million dollar mistake on his part. Their OL sucks badly and they have 8 commits so far this year. He will be a beaten and bruised man come the day he goes to the NFL draft.

So Scarlett is getting paid. I get it now. I assume the kid is smart since he attends STA. So when you look how terrible UF is offensively, no QB, no OL, and WR's, it makes sense why Scarlett would go there. Really, who wants to play with Kaaya, a very good OL coached by a legend who has put countless OL in the NFL. Of course, Scarlett doesn't want to play with an OL that will be opening up major holes for him and a QB that will throwing passes to him in the flats and giving him the rock 18 times each game.

Good luck Scarlett!

I know right?

**An interesting response that I received when talking to high school coaches at the Express tryouts over the weekend when I asked about what Miami could do to improve their recruiting efforts in South Florida is that the staff needs to do a better job identifying who exactly needs to be “recruited”. What do they mean by that? Multiple coaches said that in other places, Miami is able to go up and recruit a kid and their parents. But in South Florida, a recruit’s parents might not have any true pull in the recruitment. It might be a “cousin”, an uncle, a family friend, or whatever. Miami's difficulty in convincing the people who have an impact on kids down here has come back to hurt them.

So basically Miami needs to start paying people

That's the vibe i get, he basically said it without saying it. In order to get these guy we got to deal with the street agent's, SOFLA football recruiting is starting to look like the Dominican republic, Its sad man its a lose lose situation do things the right way lose recruits to the guys that are not, start paying players and get the death penalty. Miami is a tough job for any coach even Butch.

This again, why does 6-7 and our staff have nothing to do with it. Florida has someone who is from the Bama tree at least. Not saying he will amount to anything, but Al...

Basically been a given for months that Scarlett would be gone and I will still be rustled when it happens.

So we cooled on Cronkrite because he was the worst of the 4 (laugh) and then sent Williams packing to solidify the last 2 (dead).

Clown.

*******.

Show.

I wouldn't accept a South Florida kids commitment prior to national signing day, LoL!

Can he just decommit already? I hate when kids wait until the last minute to do it; give the staff the heads up so they can focus their recruitment to kids who want to be here.

What exactly is interesting about this, Pete? A) I thought you said this staff was getting better at "playing the game"? B) Da fugg are Ice, Baez and Beard employed for if we can't even identify who needs to be recruited let alone proceed trying to sell the right person a garbage product? C) Eff the entire scene down here. From coaches to kids to absentee parents to "mentors" to street agents to them all. Sick of the entire cesspool....especially when we're so effing inept at being successful within it.

Pete, I am curious what you hear as to why Scarlett might not want to play at Miami.

Moreover, what is the attitude of these kids, "the street" if you will, towards the Hurricane program. Do you hear them describe AG as a liability? Do comments like those from Duke's mom come up in conversation? Do they see what this board predominantly sees?

It seems to be such a bad combination of things and then you layer in problems acute in South Florida recruiting, that there is no way AG can turn this around. In fact, a while ago you tweeted after a loss that "Al Golden can't survive this." Bottom line....can he? Sure doesn't seem like he can turn it around....

If we lose Scarlett and go from the one of the sickest RB commit lists in Scarlett, Cronkite, Williams and Walton to just Walton......that would by be the biggest recruiting failure i have seen in my life as a Canes fan. Unbeliebale, unacceptable......just unfreakin' real!

Think about where we would be if Walton DIDN'T reclassify...

Coley, Brown, Ice, Baez, and Beard and we struggle with the basics. Does not scound right.
It's almost as if surrounding your coaching and support staff with "recruiters" and high school coaches was a stupid, short-sighted, and desperate attempt to make up for the head coach's inability to recruit and connect with south Florida prospects.

I just remember when these moves were all applauded because it was Golden making a concerted effort to win South Florida. Coley was the first in a line of moves that were supposed to get us excited about what we were gonna do in recruiting according to recruiting people on the board. Can we stop playing to South Florida with coaching staff and support staff hires and hire actual Xs and Os guys and win on the field? The rest will fall in line.

But Al is rebuilding the bridges that Randy burned!!

Now Randy is at UF and they pulling SFL STUDS?

LMAO !!

I hear you. Some more than others. I liked the Coley hire initially, mainly because I stupidly felt it was some kind of big blow to FSU. LOL. Discovering Kaaya is the only worthwhile thing he has done. That, and helping me understand what it is that Pitbull constantly screams in his songs. Dale!

Ice has no business being on a division 1 staff. None. Fight me. If Golden had any self-respect he never would have offered him the job. But like most cuckolding eunuchs, he has none, so here we are.

Baez and Beard appear to be helping with 2016, otherwise nothing. All Baez does is post daily weather maps on twitter showing how Miami never dips below 55 degrees. Good for Beard for being able to cash checks from the football team he loves and played for.

Brown was promoted because he was a Cane and supposed to be a great recruiter. I'm sick of Miami always throwing around job offers to guys who shouldn't be here, but are, because they are supposed to be good at recruiting. You can maybe get away with that with 1 guy. You can't do it with half your staff being "recruiters." And if you do you better...you know...actually recruit well.

When you dont know how to recruit in your own backyard. you have a serious problem and that goes for any coach in any region

Why would anybody we brought in from the outside do any better? Heck, Al's predecessor was a black coach from the inner city in Miami and he couldn't really do any better. We have guys like Hurlie Brown, and especially Ice, and they can't identify the true influencers?

I suspect the real story underlying this is that there are people that have to be paid off, and we're just not able or willing to do it.

Maybe other programs have learned how to play the "street" game in south Florida, under our noses, and while we were trying to get over the Shapiro mess, and we're not going to be able to win until we learn how to play the game in our own backyard. I don't think AG is the problem, I think Butch might have the same problem especially if Ice can't do it. A highly respected winning HS coach from Dade and he can't find the people who count with these kids? It won't be fixed unless we brought in Uncle Luke himself as recruiting coordinator and head of south Florida recruiting.

It sounds like somebody's gotten to Scarlett and he's going to follow the money. What exactly is behind him being all but gone?

It's always been this way in south Florida, to an extent, but I think it's just gotten more brazen and it's involving more than just the player. We complained about that character who was teaching at that fraud of a high school, but we don't even hear about him now. Maybe there's a whole community of influencers, mentors and street agents with their claws in kids all over south Florida, and it's just overwhelming us and our unwillingness to play the same game.

I also suspect Duke's mom has hurt our recruiting more than anyone can imagine. Whether she was justified in going public with her criticisms, she has that right. Whether her anger at the coaches was justified? It might very well be that it is.

Ultimately, I think the fact that many current players are not happy campers is helping to kill our recruiting, beside the other factors I think might be in play, including the influencers, mentors and street agents, and payoffs.

When she went public with her criticisms, I knew that would be hard to counter. As I said, that's her prerogative, and she might have very valid complaints. Whether they are or not, I have felt for several weeks that Al Golden is a dead man walking at UM. I don't think he can recover from his problems. And I don't think it was his refusal to fire D'Onofro. To the extent our defense was the downfall, I don't attribute to anyone other than the person who brought in that defense, and that is Al Golden. I think one of the biggest problems is the inability of the offense to generate points in the second half. That's not the defense. I suspect AG might have put handcuffs on Coley and Kaaya in the second half of a number of games.

Just stop it. Duke's mom, fans blah blah blah. This is all on UM admin. They do what needed to be done and there is no negativity and we would be adding recruits rather than losing them. UM has fostered the current atmosphere and all blame rests on them
