The Work 3-31

I think having a legit Coach in more than a decade is the true difference, someone who actually knows what he's doing, no more amateur hour.

you know alot of SEC guys rip on richt, siting that he never won at uga, he was good not great, and couldnt win the big games

to be honest, other than chizik who bought a title with cam, and les miles who lucked into a title with nick sabans senior class

no one else really won in the SEC during the saban/meyer decade+

i firmly believe richt is a top 5 coach in the country, i always liked him at UGA, however i believe miami presents him with a better chance to succeed than he had at UGA

SFLA just produces better talent than the ATL area, and with a capable, successful coach, we should be able to both keep alot of the talent we werent keeping with randy and golden

and go out and get some top kids in other areas to fill our needs

He may know football, but he didn't know what kind of football needed to be played at UM.
D'onofrio knows football very well. There were a few players that didn't understand how the game works. The same can be said pretty much anywhere.

I just don't see it that way.

Whether you don't "see" it that way or not is irrelevant. The results speak for themselves. **** out here with your troll ***.

You're entitled to your opinion and lets come to an understanding that your opinion is simply that. There's no arguing with Mark's pedigree.

-Team Captain while playing at Penn State
-2nd round draft pick in the NFL
-15 years of college coaching experience beginning at UGA and moving to Rutgers, Virginia, Temple, & Miami

You may not like his scheme but to label him a person that doesn't know football is just false.

Hey Mark, how's the unemployed life treating ya?

That's not Mark.... That's Al.

C'mon now, that is a homer statement. Richt is a top 15 top 20 guy, which is **** **** good and light years ahead of the last three guys we had. I have a hard time believing that Richt would make your top 5 if he wasnt coaching our Canes. He is a top notch QB coach and play caller, but he stumbled at UGA numerous times with not only great talent, but arguably the most talent in the nation. I think he can win it all here, because it appears he seems motivated after being let go by UGA and our recruiting grounds are tops in the nation, but at this point in time he just isn't a top 5 coach.

we won a national championship with Coker, who was as bad as Golden so a top 20 coach and good recruiting should win us at least a few more.

All your post proves is that he was very good at following orders.

When he had to GIVE the orders, he fell apart. The one position he had to GIVE direction to others, fell apart.

Just because anyone can know chess, does not make everyone a grand master. Same concept.

Just because you "know" football doesn't mean you are a good coach. Much like everything else in life, in the coaching world, a lot has to do with who you know and not what you know. Golden got him his opportunity in several schools. **** out of here.

I'm sorry fellas but I disagree.

In his first season at UVA, Mark worked with All-American Heath Miller, who owns all school records for tight end receiving. The winner of the Mackey Award as the nation's best tight end, Miller also earned first-team All-ACC honors two years in a row.
Additionally, DMark oversaw a kicking game that featured first-team All-ACC honoree Alvin Pearman who recorded an 11.2-yard punt return average, the best by a Cavalier in five seasons. Virginia also ranked second in the country in kickoff returns with a 26.6-yard average, their highest average since 1963.

During Temples inaugural season of Mid-American Conference play in 2007, Mark guided the Temple defense to lead the MAC in five defensive statistical categories, including red zone defense which also ranked first nationally. In 2008, Mark's defense helped Temple to the team’s most wins since 1990 and a second-place finish in the MAC East. In 2009, Mark's defense helped TU win a single-season record nine consecutive games en route to a 9-4 overall record and first-place tie in the MAC East. A school record eight defensive players were named All-MAC, including five on the first team. Sophomore Adrian Robinson earned 2009 MAC Defensive Player of the Year accolades, and senior Andre Neblett became Temple’s first three-time All-MAC honoree. Those are all things Mark should be proud of.

Countless numbers of players from Mark's time at Miami have gone on to success in the NFL and while it may be convenient and easy to point the finger at Mark it just isn't fair.

Mark richt is a top 10 coach right now... 3rd most wins by any coach ever in their first 15 seasons... That's remarkable... Averaging **** near 10 wins a year and would have had more this year if he had a capable qb and if nick Chubb didn't break his leg...

You right red bank, it's goldens fault that he kept his a** fielding that dreadful defense for 5 years. Anyway you slice it he was awful in every game he coached at Miami outside of 2014 va tech and Duke game and that's being generous

Mark, you can stop defending yourself. We know it's you.

Sounds a lot like the transformation to the Butch staff. These guys want success and know what's on the line. Don't be surprised if it takes longer than a couple of years to get to the playoffs. The "virus" may take a few rounds of penicillin. We'll probably see a couple of first rounders before we see a 'ship. Just my$0.02.

Go Canes!

So there are 3 or 4 future NFL HCs out there. That is great. Man I hope you are right.

It's gotta be April fool's day with some dude on here preaching the virtues and talents of Mark D'Onofrio.

Not in order but these I would consider the top 20 coaches.

Saban
Meyer
Harbaugh
Miles
B.Stoops
Richt
Fisher
Freeze
Briles
Malzahn
Ferentz
Patterson
Dantonio
Holliday
Kelly
Fuente
Herman
Whittingham
Mora
Sumlin

I think Richt is within the top 10 range. Top 5 if he wins a national championship.

Richt is definitely a top ten coach. Miami or not. When he first got hired I had a discussion with some buddies and we tried putting together a list of top coaches in FBS. There's a few obvious ones at the very top but once you get into 7,8,9 or so, it's gets tougher and tougher to leave Richt out. If someone can put a list of top 15 coaches in FBS and not mention Richt, they either hate him or they're on crack.

And yet has won no significant game in his entire life as a coach.

Knowing football> Winning football games

Totally agree. There is the top 5 or 6 echelon, but right around 7,8,9 is where Richt is at. Definitely top 10.

Add David Shaw above most of the last 6 guys listed.
