There SHOULD be a giant meltdown because UM SHOULD be expected to pull a guy like Cook from our own backyard. Way too many factors in our favor to just casually slough off losing him to a hated rival. UM fans need to get their expectations up.

name a city that produces as many big time prospects as miami and the school closest lands them all

I don't know what that means. But if you guys are happy losing Phony and Dalvin (arguably the top 2 RBs in the country) with one of them going to our biggest rival, then don't complain when we keep getting our asses kicked on the field.

You dudes who keep saying "you can't get em all" and "you can't force him to stay here" don't get it. You don't have to "get em all", but you **** sure need to get the best ones in your backyard especially when so many factors are in your favor. Dalvin is a program changer, and if he goes to fsu, it's going to be crushing crushing news.

so what do you think we should do that we already aren't doing?

Chise,

Where is Jaimeis Winston from? Bama? Did Bama offer him? Did Saban lose him to Jimbo?

Is it inexcusable to either lose out on the best player in the nation in your own backyard or worse, not make him a priority?

Yes, he's from Bama, and wanted to leave. Not much Saban could've done.

well, according to many here its all a sales pitch. One coach can sell why its in their favor to stay home and another why he should leave, whichever has the better, more convincing pitch closes the deal...

I agree, some kids just want out of town and you can't convince them otherwise.

When you win 3 NCs in 4 years you can afford to lose a Winston or even not make him a priority when you can't even win the coastal in year 3 you can't afford to lose a Cook.

so if you win, you can choose to not recruit the best player in the nation? Yeah, sounds just like Saban…..

Golden needed to stop recruiting Dwyer for a while because is never pays off. We can't even get one Dwyer player to commit, PLEASE move on Golden

I tend to agree with that method. Make it clear to all the high school players that going to a school with a coach that pushed kids somewhere else ensures that you will never get an offer from THE U! That will hurt that coach's ability to get top players. Kids want certain offers and THE U is one of them. Doesn't mean they want to come here. The offer seems to be a scalp on the wall. I haven't followed recruiting like some here, but if we have never gotten kid from Dwyer then it is a plausible tactic. There are several audiences for it. These principals want to win. If a coach causes them to not get the kids that can win, then it could have impact on that coach's employment prospects. These other colleges have more money, but this is So Fl and most people here are Cane fans. We can make life VERY hard on felon and criminal alum head coaches down here and any other who favors other schools for whatever $$ reason.

We need to be landing the guys we go after hard more times than not, especially in our own backyard.

If there are three studs at positions of need, we need to be landing at least one of those guys.

question we have a kid named "john doe" he is a 5* all american cant miss prospect from dade grew up a cane fan but doesnt want to stay home, wants to get out of state.are you saying if there are one of these players every year golden is a failure because he cant change his mind?

I get the argument but if your not gonna be innovative with the X's and O's and be fairly conservative then you better recruit at an elite level. Right now Al hasn't done that. Landing Cook, Dixon, and elite level guys is what its gonna take to get us back to championships.

I heard that Dixon is 100% done to OSU. And unless Pete and I speak to the same source, this person also said Miami a few weeks ago. Not sure what changed.

I am not concerned about any WR this year. lane and Dixon would be nice but we have all but Hurns coming back, a few move kyung pups in the class, and next year is a loaded year for WR In south Florida.

The critical commits remaining is anyone on defense and Cook.

Finish *** with Hester, Jackson and cook and this is an incredible class.

Depends. How big of a need and target is he for us?

Is he the only blue chipper in the area at that position?

It's not about getting everyone, it's about landing the ones you really want, more times than not. Some guys get away, but that percentage should be a lot lower than those who you get.

Get fans in the stadium. We are an embarrassment when they show the crowd and we have 10K there. Except for the diehard local kids, who would want to play in front of a crowd like we have.

Who is saying that? We have some elite talent. We also have a roster full of JAGs. Last time I checked a roster consisted of 85 guys. Having a handful of elite guys is fine. Va Techs and Louisvilles of the world have that. To compete with the big boys you need to recruit at an elite level year in and year out. You have to stockpile talent at each position.

The elite teams who remain up top are full of elite high school talent with some jags sprinkled in.

Im just saying by majority so fla kids are "sunny weather" fan (no pun intended) im sure we land cook, sony and lane easy if we was in Pasadena in jan. if Florida wasnt 4-8 cook would not even have interest in us because they was a bcs "caliber" team. keep thinking just because we are The U kids are going to want to come. teams with the best record consistently finish with top 10 classes and top players.

Could the *****ing that goes on in this sight actually turn recruits against coming here. It seems to me that almost every post has something negative to say about the coaching staff or the recruit. I know recruits and their parents read this stuff and eventually pull back from us. I don`t go to other sights, so I have no idea if it`s just us or every program belittles it`s staff. All I know is I`m sick of it.

Hurns is a senior but am with you that our WR is still a very good one.

The myth that you need great facilities and records to land elite kids out of your backyard has been proven to be false.

Now the NCAA situation did hamper us. That was a legit problem.

This class is looking good, especially at positions of need, let's see how we close.
