The verdict is in on James Brockermeyer

Stanford defense was shifting into a goal formation once they identified it was a run play, and they knew they didn’t have to protect the edges.
We are definitely too predictable in our run game and teams are seeing that on film.
Also, it’s even harder to run up the middle when your center is being pushed backwards, that needs to be addressed.
The safeties weren't even hesitating on helping with run support. That's problematic for our RBs creates more free hitters in the box. It's an issue.

It seems like oversimplifying things but the offense actually came alive once they moved guys out further and started mixing in some outside zone. We’re never going to run a bunch of tosses but dammit we can occasionally run into the C-gap. Especially considering our best linemen play tackle.

We do nothing on offense to stress the edges of the opposing defense. They can always just crash and never worry about setting an edge because A) We never run the ball outside the guards and B) Beck never pulls it and keeps to the outside. Do you realize how easy it is to defend a team when you never have to worry about setting an edge or defending a cut back lane?

He’s pretty bad. I thought I was tripping early in the season, but that position needs a significant upgrade next season.

He's the real reason we can't run. The back gets the ball and there he is in the way.

Entire o-line and its coach are overrated to me. We do not move the line of scrimmage. We consistently get shutdown in short yardage. Too much hype and not enough performance.
Facts….not the best o-line in the country like some like to say…last year yes this year they have taken a step back

You aren't going to bat 1.000 on portal evals. That said, he's serviceable, but not nearly as good as Lee and Carpenter. It would be nice if one of the younger guys took his spot, but apparently, they aren't ready yet.

The interior and te's not blocking as well this year, especially recently. Seems we should get more creative and be less predictable...

we used to play with those formations last season. it totally opens things up. They looked like a different team for most of the 3rd Q.

Why not open up like that? It's really a headscratcher
Beck is much more comfortable playing in condensed formations, it's been discussed ad nauseum. That said, considering how bad he has been at avoiding turnovers, a change is needed. It's tough to run in a phonebooth, force teams to defend the entire field, which leads to easier blocking assignments for the OL.

Facts I just watched the game highlights on YouTube …on offense you see him getting pushed back constantly
The fourth down and 1

The entire team is getting push, but him

Why can't Rodriguez play center and McCoy play LG? We need an adjustment and we have the guys on the bench to do it. Heck, even Samson could play LG.
I don't think McCoy or Samson have been playing like starting LG for the last 4 games. I was in favor of giving Rodriguez the start at LG against Stanford. Try to light a fire under McCoy, who has a ton of talent but is maddingly inconsistent. But with #52 continuing to trend down, think the move, if they make it, with Rodriguez is to C (unless they think SJ is ready at C)

Another option would be to move Coop to LG and McCoy/Samson to RG. Our OL would be more balanced, but at the expense of a dominant duo on the right side. We don't collapse the right side and run off CiCi's outside shoulder much anyways, so I think shuffling the guards could work out well, but am happy to hear why not from folks more knowledgeable.

But but but it’s the best OL in the country! Elite bro!

This group is very good at pass protection. But they’re mediocre to flat out below average at run blocking, and commit a ton of back breaking penalties.

I’ll keep saying it - this unit overall is very overrated.

Him and the TE position being absolute zeros.. I remember the week he was getting his *** kicked and then won olineman of the week for ACC.. absolute insanity
Tight end blocking is low key the weak point of our entire offense. It wouldn’t be a big deal if we didn’t rely on it so much. Just another reason to use more spread formations. If you HAVE to use 11 personnel, move a tight end to the slot. If he’s not going to block anyone, at least make him drag a potential run defender away from the box. We have to motion a 180lb receiver into the formation to wham block because our tight ends are putrid.

Our TE’s are terrible. They can’t even block. Give me more Tony Johnson and Moore. Put more talent on field and spread it out. It’s simple.

True and a run outside gets you 10 🤣.

I was at a wedding. So just got done watching. It did seem we had more diversity in the run Game the second half. And more 4 wr sets. Too many screens for my liking as well. I don’t love the notion “it’s an extension of the run game”
