The Turning Point

So we can start blaming Mario post 2025 or 2026? Asking for a friend.

100 percent responsible? Nobody but him. Those were his kids, while he scooted out the back door. Some, recruited while he was here, arrived on campus after he left, still his.

No credit for anyone else, just Botch. Got it.
full house youre in big trouble mister GIF

IMHO, the stretch between 1998 through the 2000 Washington loss can be relevant to our current status in that even if we are to regain prominence in the next few years, we should not be surprised by a similar two-steps-forward one-step-back lurch in progress. Is our current staff/roster comparable to where we stood at that point in 1998 to expect such a net progression over the next two years? Time will tell and receipts will be waved.

#1...The 98 Staff was much better...
#2....This 2022 team wasn't hindered by a loss of 30 schollies the previous 4yrs

I don’t think we’re “turning a corner” Saturday. The way to know that is in hindsight anyway. I just hope we don’t find out we’re we’re a beat up Ford on an oval track.

I hate to jump in on a thread on page 11 but...

People dont realize how good that '98 Syracuse team was. They finished 8-4 with an insane out of conference schedule that included 13-0 (National Champions) Tennessee, a 10 win Michigan team (that Syracuse beat at Michigan) and a 10 win Florida team. Donovan McNabb came into his own as an elite QB that season on his way to being a top 5 pick in the draft.

@SWFLHurricane is arguing the comparison between UNC and UCLA but I'd say the better argument is the comparison of 1998 Syracuse (on the road) with 2022 Middle Tennessee State (at home) is the most flawed.

That said, I sure hope OP is right. This team needs a win to turn things around.

You just wait. 24 years from now we'll realize how good the MTSU team was.

I wish the 2022 team lost 30 ships. I could name at least 30 guys who don't belong on the roster.
While I agree. We’ve seen a lot of great teams struggle like this. I don’t think this is gonna be our year by any means but I think Mario will bring us back to relevance. Despite what we see this year if he holds onto some of his recruits it’s hard to think he won’t bring us so much closer

We can certainly go that route as well...either way, neither are comparable whatsoever...If that UCLA team beats us, they, not FSU, plays Tennessee for the NC...and very well could've Won it all. FSU started a 3rd string QB (Marcus Outzen)

There is a moment when a program turns the corner. This team needs that more than ever and this Saturday there is an opportunity to make that happen. I remember in 1998 getting boat raced by Syracuse, only to knock off an undefeated UCLA the following week. In a lot of ways, that was the turning point for Butch and Miami.

Losing to MTSU is bad enough, but if there was a silver lining, it could be the embarrassment of that loss that created a positive change within the program.

If we beat UNC on Saturday, it's not like beating a top 10 team, but it's a team that has been a thorn in our ***. We would be 1-0 in a conference that is begging for us to win. It could spark momentum and a winning streak which would hopefully carry over to recruiting.

With all the negativity lately, it would be a pleasant surprise to see a well prepared Miami team this Saturday that performs at a high level. We all need to see it to believe it and I'm truly hoping we get a glimpse of Miami kicking *** again.
If we beat UNC, we're 7-2 going into that FSU game with a LOT of mojo at our backs. Crootin will be off the chain, too.

Said it before Texas A&M, winning 1 game is not some magic pill. Consistency is turning the corner. Its the conference opener, business game, win it, 1-0 in ACC play and back to work. Turning the corner on a single game can only be a title game or a game v a #1 team or something such. Its just 1 game

Turning point games usually come into focus when looking at the season in the rear view mirror. IMO, hard to anticipate a “turn around game”. That said, the game is important from a team psyche aspect. Can they pull their **** together, play like their reach exceeds their grasp and play ready not desperate. I heard that this week Gattis and Ponce met with Tyler TOGETHER, not separately. First thought was WTF, they haven’t been doing that! JFC. Second thought, progress! Maybe that kick in the balls 2weeks ago loosened up some brain cells. At any rate we need to see progression, not regression. Go Canes🙌🏽#CANESNATIONLIFER
