The Turn-Around Has Begun....

OP plainly stated in thread title turnaround has began. That does not imply it has turned around all the way or even close to that. Next season will determine how far it gets turned around

Lol at anybody who calls Louisville, FSU or even UNC solid teams.

Based on SP+ rankings, they are the 53rd, 51st, and 49th best teams in the country. That's not amazing, but it reflects a solid P5 squad that will go bowling. For context, in 2015 we finished 47th, in 2012 we finished 51st, and in 2008 we finished 44th.

And was Miami a “solid” team in 2008, 2012 or 2015?

I think not.

From 2006 on, we’ve been solid twice (in 2016-2017), mayybbee three times if you count 2009. And even 2017 is still ridiculously overrated by this board. (It was basically the same as a typical Shannon or Golden season except for the VT, ND and maybe Duke games.)

This reminds me of when Al Golden won 3 straight games to improve to 6-3 in 2014 to improve to 6-3, and everybody was slurping him.

Except that we routed those 3 (weak) opponents. IIRC, our closest game in that span was 21 points. I’m sure we didn’t get outgained in that span like we have in the current 3 game span.

Thanks for proving my point:

Fans believe in their team...

Haters don't.... Period.

Most teams do not go bowling...

Where do you get that from? There are 40 bowls, resulting in 80 bowl teams out of 130. If there aren’t enough 6-6 teams, they’ll put some 5-7 teams in bowls, like they did after 2015.

The proportion of Power 5 teams in bowls is even higher than 8/13.

Lmao this narrative is funny

it’s obvious Enos and Diaz had a talk about getting out of under center and exclusively running shotgun

Thats something Golden NEVER did was fixing his mistake that was the defense

I sign that Manny can see a problem and nip it jn the butt... hes not an idiot he knows hes on a short leash

Louisville is a solid team, they're not great but they're about the same level of quality as UNC and FSU.
Louisville is not a solid team. They are near the Coastal average or slight better. But if we played them earlier in the season, this would be a L. Remember how we played CMU and GT?

Do you seriously think there is a possibility we can lose to fig. I think you need to take the we out of your sentence when you talk about the hurricanes because you are obviously aren't a hurricanes fan

Exactly. Which is why I don't understand why the mods haven't banned this clown yet. Complete troll and spam bot

It takes time to turn around a sinking ship...

  • 2018: Ending of 7-6 -- MR resigns
  • 2018: Lost 7 blue chip recruits
  • Dec 2018: Diaz hired
  • Jan 2019: New Assistant Coaches Hired -- Enos
  • Feb 2019: New Offensive system installed
  • Aug 2019: 8 months of a total rebuild started
  • Oct 2019: 8 games within 1-2 plays of winning
  • Nov 2019: All 3 phases of the team now clicking...
This is how turn-arounds work....

GO CANES!
GO COACH DIAZ & ENOS!
*** YOU HATERS!

Closing the season strong will be stellar.

Now, to go Temple, Wagner and UAB to start the season next year, with a truly pathetic schedule overall....with Michigan State sadly being the gem.....that will tell more about what Manny Diaz will be able to do here.

There are TONS of Central Michigan / GT opportunities on that schedule. Show us you can get your guys prepared and fired up week in and week out for that schedule. That to me will be a pretty impressive feat, regardless of what happens after that.

UM

Ignore these haters. I agree with the OP. The turnaround at UM is/was inevitable and long over due. This turnaround is a "market correction." What are the odds that the school with a rich and one time dominant history, nestled in the MOST talent rich part of America, would keep shooting itself in the foot?

The turnaround is happening, at least to make us a perennial 10 win team. Is Manny and co enough to get us to the playoffs and eventually NCGM? That is a different level. But, are we finally getting back to what should always be a baseline 10 win a season team (starting next year)? Yeah, that course correction is happening.
Why don’t we wait till next year? It seems lately, that every time we we count our eggs for next year, they don’t hatch. So yeah, it’s great that there’s a turnaround happening, but we lose a ton of seniors from this team. I just don’t want to hear that’s the reason we suck next year, should we suck. That will be on the coaches in their second year. I hope we top this ham sandwich with all the toppings we can get, next year.

Horribly underachieved? If we had a kicker who could make a kick under 30 yards we’d be 9-1 at worse. Not to mention the **** offensive line he was left with.
Yes. Horribly underachieved. UNC is a 4 win team and GT isn’t better than Central Michigan. Why tf were we even in one possession games with them to begin with? You can rationalize all you want and play the if game, but no excuses for either or those games. UF I’ll take the kicker argument. VT we had 4+ turnovers and were in a hole. A 10 win team if we don’t play like *** out the gate

This wasn’t supposed to be a rebuild. This should be a one loss team but at least now we see improvement. Enos playing more out of the gun should’ve happened from the start.

We beat bad teams but we beat them soundly so that is improvement. We need to beat a quality bowl team or at least play like we belong and then recruit well. This isn’t close to a wrap.
Nice post. My biggest worry about going forward is our recruiting just haven't got it done for so many years. Gotta find a way to keep the South Florida kids at home. Enos took too long to adjust that hurt us big time against bad teams and the def coach should probably be fired in my opinion. I'd give him till the end of season to get better though. Why is it that fans could see we should have been in the gun but coaches making a million bucks a year couldn't?

Agree totally. One thing I will say is we played equally **** teams in the beginning of the season and either struggled or lost to them (CMU, GT, UNC). So there is a bit of an apples to apples comparison. A lot of people on the board said we need to beat the teams are supposed to be, and preferably soundly. Next year we need to do that throughout the season.

Like you said, I am staying a bit skeptical until we do it against a good team. I hope we win the next two and get a good challenge in our bowl game.

We’re in one possession games because we’re not Bama, Clemson, UGA, LSU or OSU.
Almost every other team in P5 routinely plays close games including Oregon, Utah, OU and we’re not close to them. It’s called CFB.
I notice you didn’t mention how horrible the OL was early on which was a failure of the Richt/Searles regime, not Manny’s. The kickers missed 5 FGs and 2 xps in our losses this year - all under 35 yards. If we’re Bama we could overcome it, but were not and it’s not 2001. Those aren’t excuses or rationalizations, they’re facts.

No dice for me. Why can we do it now but not then? Is it because manny and his staff botched personnel deployment early and didn’t have the right guys? Is it because we now have our best players on the field in defense? Or is it because we now run our offense out of the gun and leave backs in to chip and block? Whose job is it to get the kids prepared to play? How about to identify the right personnel groupings and deployments to be successful? That is all coaching. Full stop
