The TD that wasn't

Per the rules, he has to make a football move: fend off a defender, tuck the ball, pitch the ball or be able to. He did none of those. All he has to do was tuck it and if 28 ripped it out after the tuck it doesn’t matter.

Kept control long enough to perform an act common to the game, such as tucking it, turning upfield, or warding off a defender (Rule 2-4-3-a).

He did perform an act common to the game. He literally went out of bounds. He caught the ball in bounds. Firm control. Had two feet down. And then he went out of bounds and as his foot hit, he still had possession. Going out of bounds is an act of common to the game. Everyone goes out of bounds.

I think it comes down to whether the third step that landed out of bounds = "maintains control of the ball long enough to enable that player to perform an act common to the game"?

Coach seems to think it does, so that's good enough for me, lol.
So how is a WR toe dragging on the sideline enough to establish a a football move since their momentum is going out of bounds, or to pitch, or ward off a tackler

Bad call there and then they double down by waiting 10 seconds to buzz down an obvious forcible contact to the head or neck area only to waive it off and let ND get set again

Pretty poor game by the refs tonight…

THIS. This is the one I'm steamed about. Literally couldn’t use his arms. You see this called all the time when the DB grabs one arm and the WR tries to one-hand it. Here he couldn’t even do that cause both were held. I KNEW it was a flag when i saw ZERO hands go for the ball, I was like here we go first and goal from the 1. Easiest call ever.

Shouldn’t have come down to the Lofton play.

Point of fact: as there is only one foot in bounds required for a completed catch in college football, as he maintained possession in the end zone when his SECOND foot subsequently hit the ground in bounds, that is sufficient under the rules for a “football move.” As he then went out of bounds having completed the catch in the end zone, the play is immediately over. That the DB stripped the ball at that time is now immaterial.

It’s a catch. TD.

All that being said, our OL sucked today as did our pass defense. We absolutely deserved to lose.

Please don’t do this ref ****. I’m so over it from all fan bases using it as cope. There’s 120 plays in a game and a penalty on every play. Injuries and refs are part of the game. Oh and that’s not a catch . We was outplayed and the better team this night won. Finish business and we can get some get back.
The non-PI on Upshaw play before though is a pretty bad, and huge, no-call. Guy couldn’t use either arm. Not just one but BOTH. Never seen that not called when my guy’s hands never got to go up lol Not even one.

Everybody is missing the play before that, as I did in real time, and was wondering why Mario was going nuts on the sideline. The receiver could even get a single arm up to make an attempt at the ball.

The TD should have been poetic justice for that, but when they called it incomplete on the field, there was no chance for that to go our way…regardless of your perspective on the rule.

I asked in the game day thread why Upshaw jumped up in the air like his arms were tied to his waist. Then I saw the replay. Clear as day. Complete bull****.

Yeah Upshaw when he couldn’t turn
