The rumors are flying in the DMV area about Butch Davis

Am I the only one not buying into an obvious rumour? Neither the BOT or James is likely to even have their heads out of their asses, much less have a real candidate targeted. I just don't buy it at all.

I played highschool football in maryland and I hate the terps. But the terps want to win now. There are certain board of trustee members at Maryland who do not want the early pressure of not living up to their end of the Big ten Bargain. Alot of money has been spent on the advertisements for Maryland Big ten campaign. They raised season ticket prices and Byrd stadium is looking very empty. Once again I am not saying this is fact just what I have heard from many local coaches and an old classmate of mine who's father was very high up in administration. They want Butch Davis...

The ONLY reason they left the ACC for the Least 10 was the $50 million cash infusion. Like many liberal institutions, they don't know the meaning of fiscal restraint. That league wants a few more doormats. Maryland and Rutgers fit the bill.

If Butch took that job it'd only be because he truly is desperate to take anything. Maryland has absolutely nothing going for it aside from the Under Armour connection. I can see him taking a USF or UCF type job before that unless Kevin Plank is going to cut a big check.

This... And btw... Dan, what happened to "the more you know" this year?? I really enjoyed them in the past.
 
I'm on UMD's campus every weekend and hoop with a few people that are fairly well connected and haven't heard a lick about Butch. It's a basketball school and I don't think any coach is really going to change that even with Under Armour's fifteen thousand uniform combos and money. Local kids don't want to stay here because no one gives a **** about MD football. The whole reason MD bolted for the Big Ten money was because they over expanded their stadium and luxury suites with bonds and needed to boost ticket sales. There were as many Michigan fans as MD fans there this past Saturday. DC metro area is all Redskins for football.
 
If this in any way true and Butch ends up going to Maryland GET RID THE ENTIRE UM ATHLETIC DEPT AND ADMINISTRATION...PURGE STYLE!!

I am not claiming to be an expert but have been around for a while an trust the people i speak with. Ask the guy who runs the one of the top DB camps in the state near duval highschool, or the coaches at the maryland junior combine, or some of the guys I played ball with. Did not claim to be an expert...

I live in Maryland, and would never be a fan of that 2nd rate program.

Of course, as a Cane fan, I wish we were higher than 3rd rate.

Wasn't always that way. You're probably too young to remember Jim Tatum's teams there. Since then, not much has gone right with that program (Sound familiar?). Terps were horrendous when I was there in grad school, but people there are just dying for a good team at last. (Especially after moving to the B1G.)

The Redskins just suck so bad now it's hard for us from the area to get up for their games.
