The reason Miami lost

If you look at the previous 3 games and see how Miami won, it really wasn't through the air. Miami didn't dominate on the ground last night as Duke Johnson, though he gained 130 yards, couldn't fight off those cramps and had to take a lot of plays off. He couldn't quite get into a groove so therefore we couldn't keep the chains moving in the second half. I think if Johnson wasn't nagged by those cramps and was completely healthy, Miami would've won.

Duke's cramps did not lose this game. We played a completely different offense in the second half, which resulted in 3 **** points! That's why we lost.

In the first half, we kept them off balance constantly, and it led to 23 points, including a 10 point margin, and receiving the ball to start the second half. If we continued to play the same way then odds are we would have had the result we all hoped for. FSU was ripe for the picking. We simply bent over and allowed them to get back right in it.

We lost the game because our second half strategy was "play not to lose" instead of "playing to win."

We lost in the 2nd half because Kaaya was getting every passed batted down or missing his targets completely. That and FSU got every bounce to go their way(the fumble, tipped TD). When we came out running the ball in the 2nd half, we were picking up 4+ every time. That was enough to keep moving the ball. It just doesn't help when Kaaya looked rattled the 2nd half or the players were making dumb penalties.

When it matters, these players can't step up, just like their coach.

Dropped INT prior to an FSU score in the first half
Dropped TD (Berrios)
Missed extra point
Missed field goal
Two fumbles from our tight ends on big plays
A batted ball that should have killed an FSU drive results in a gift TD
Passive 2nd half defense
Ultra conservative 2nd half offense
Idotic play calling on the final drive

But yeah, let's blame it all on Duke's cramps.

They were in position to succeed and just didn't. They did not make the plays. The fact that the team had 50 chances to close the game out, yet never made the play is on the coaches? The coaches put them in the right positions. The players have to make the catches and throws. They didn't.

you pay a price for going with a true frosh at QB. It will pay off in spades over the next few years.

which is why I never wanted this game to rely on kaaya's arm in the first place

we should have absolutely pounded that ball all night long and only used Kaaya when needed

I know the kids a superstar in the waiting but he's a true freshmen and it showed in the second half

as pretty as the first half was, I was worried because duke wasn't taking over the game like we needed to

Butch wasn't much of a coach, but he had the ability to identify and close on players that could make plays when it mattered... Moss, Wayne, Reed, Shockey, Dorsey, Vilma, Taylor, Rolle, Gore... and on and on... In CFB, getting pro caliber impact players is all that really matters. Al can't get these players, just guys that want to be.

going for it on 4th down at the 50 is not ultra conserVative

Our HC is a scared timid nervous wreck who goes into a shell when he gets a lead. His plan was to establish the run and bleed the clock in the second half.

Got away from what was working, which was clearly play-action passing game on first down. You mean to tell me we suddenly lost our advantage in the passing game?

Where was a guy like Herb Waters? He would have given them nightmares.

That was one decision. Beyond that point the play calling was very predictable. I think we ran the ball on first down on just about every posession in the 2nd half.

Most of those don't happen if we dominate on the ground and control time of possession the way we did in the first half. That's the key. Duke Johnson having to take too many plays off puts the onus on Kaaya to really make the plays. In the first half we ran the ball well, kept the chains moving and we kept their offense off the field, we needed it to be the same way down the stretch.

This. We went into the football equivalent of the 4 corners offense in basketball.

This makes no sense. Duke Johnson was not relevant to most of the miscues I listed. Not to mention, most of our big plays in the first half were through the air.
