Why can't we find an oc who can run it? All the elite offenses other than whack a bama run it. We need to update our offense. Pocket passing is great but it just isn't the best offense now a days.

I know kaaya can't run it so.....

This is Miami we don't need to run the read option. We have been a pro-style offense an that is what puts kids into the NFL.

Also OP get your facts right most of the Top 15 teams in the country DON'T run that high school offense designed for teams with inferior talented linemen.

I will help you out in naming teams that DON'T run that gimmicky offense: Bama, LSU, Mich, Mich St, Stanford, Iowa, Oklahoma (they run a spread not a read option), Wisconsin, and USC.

Miami's problem is that our offensive line has been terrible this year and our OC is not very good developing route trees nor power run concepts. An he refuses to borrow concepts from other OC's other than flee flickers. An the defense has become a dumpster fire do to power coaching and development.

Better yet - why can't we stop it? I think UNC could have run the read option every play and done just as well. It's as if we weren't prepared for it.

Truth. A couple of times we had a guy there, but it looked like they didn't know what to do... just stood there while the qb went right by.

We run spread stuff without having a full understanding of spread concepts. Our staff has basically watched other teams use this stuff and said, well it'll work for us because it works for them. Problem is that those guys are teachers and are able to get the guys to understand the concepts as opposed to just running whatever play gets thrown on a chalkboard on Thursday.

Thank you. The option has always been for schools without the talent to compete otherwise. Once we get a true Miami hurricane defense on the field again, full of our old speed and aggression, we can dust off the playbooks and shut the read option down -- we killed before we will kill it again.(Like Ray said before playing SF in the Super Bowl, "stopping the option is not a problem." Our old D is the answer to the uptempo to for all the lovers of it. WHEN Butch restores our defense with Miami players, we will again reorder college football.

Yep and that's the crux of the problem - guys weren't sure who to take. Usually after those long read option runs there was usually someone like bush or Artie or grace in the face of another defender because someone messed up. I have never seen a defense where there was so much miscommunication.

There were a couple of times where defensive guys on the sidelines were so incensed with teammates missing assignments that they had to be restraines

And that's what kills me about it too... where are all these hybrid OLB/DE types that this defense is supposed to highlight? D'NOs "specialty" is EXACTLY where the problem is. There is no gap to read at that point. He's right there in front of you! HIT HIM! **** it!

He's got guys afraid to make a "mistake" tackle for a loss.

Sounds like this is exactly what we need. :monkey-serious:

#1 - Who gives a **** what puts kids into the NFL? UNC might have 3 NFL kids on that whole offense and they just beat the dog **** out of us. Our job is to WIN COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAMES.

#2 - High school offense? Have you watched college football and the NFL lately? Even NFL OC's sprinkle a little read/option into their game plan.

Pro style is the least of our worries. If the kids play hard and smart and the OC calls good plays, it won't matter what we run. We don't need a gimmick, we need intensity and heart and coaching. That said, go ahead and run read option. As long as you do it well, I couldn't care less what our offense is called.

QFT.

Did you guys watch Memphis and Houston last night??? Those teams would throttle us! Read option, read option qb keeper, read option pa pass, read option wr option, jet sweeps, etc. There are so many things you can do with a read option offense. There are also so many things that can be done with a pro style offense. We just have no creativity. We never bunch our receivers and run them together off one another to get guys open.

We run zero read option, the qb isn't keeping it. The only version we run is BK will pull it and throw a flat pass. No defense end in the world believes Kayaa will keep the ball.

As for teams running it to make up for talent, Urban Meyer is one of the og's of the zone read , it's a staple of his offense . Last time I checked he has talent.

It had nothing to do with talent or lack thereof , it's common sense football . It takes the DE/ olb out of the run game . If he comes down too hard the qb pulls it out.

Btw, Alabama ran it a bunch last year .

Our fanbase continues to live in the past. Pro style, 4-3 defense and Miami guys on the staff.

Our fanbase is the balding 45 year old, still wearing his letterman jacket, talking about all his td's and ***** he got in HS.

It's ok to actually out scheme people, the days of lining up in pro form all game are dead , move on.
