The Ole Miss Thread

Agree. I was hoping UGA won, as crazy as that is to say.

I think we could’ve beaten UGA with 20. We’ll likely need 30 to beat Ole Miss.

First early look though, they are 75th in the country in yards per carry allowed. You know who is just slightly worse? A&M. Mario and Dawson need to challenge this offense to run for 200 yards. If we can just slow down their offense some in the first half and keep game script in our favor, we can run for 200 on these dudes and that tempo/Chambliss is a lot less of a factor. It’s honestly the blueprint for exactly how we’ve played all year. We have to do nothing different. Shorten the game and keep our defense fresh.
Defense will get stops and get home. They won’t score more than 20 on us.

Should be the Fletcher and Marty Brown show with some occasional deep shots. Maybe this is the game for TE to go off, seems like Ole Miss LB corp is weak. Rooting for our WR to go off to keep getting confidence

Their defense isn’t average.
The raw stats aren’t great but that’s because Ole Miss plays with tempo, and is one of the most explosive teams in CFB. So they play fast down to down, and have a lot of short offensive scoring drives.

So in terms of raw numbers, the Ole Miss defense doesn’t look good because of the volume of plays they have to defend.

Their defense is 16th per SP+. 26th per F+.
So it ranges somewhere between very good to good in the power poll models.

As a comparison, Miami’s offense is 22 per SP+ and 18th per F+.
That D was garbage yesterday. Some of the worst tackling I've seen. Georgia RB was averaging nearly 6 yards

at some point our fans are gonna stop worrying about other teams offenses and mobile QBs

i'm in northwest north carolina in a serene cabin, finally catching up on my CIS reading and too much of what i am reading is mopes and fear based posts. these MFs are trying to erode my serenity, come on meng.

we've beat every type of offense this year, have momentum and confidence and are peaking at the right time.

we will win this game as we have won the prior two. are there things to worry about? of course, they are in the semi-finals. we will prevail, absolutely

I've watched Georgia a lot this season. Statistics are one thing. Is Georgia a real top 10 defense? **** no. Ole Miss scored 35 on them earlier this season. I'm not surprised Ole Miss scored a lot on Georgia again. Georgia has no pass rush and their secondary is suspect.
Their defensive front is young. They can throw bodies out there and if you try playing right into the teeth of them they can make stops.

But the minute you spread UGA out you can have success. Ole Miss and their playmakers doesn’t worry me. It’s purely the tempo they play with. The offense is designed to neutralize our biggest strength defensively. If our DBs can press and play on an island with success for 60% of the game we will win by two scores. Gotta tackle well in the open field and make them convert the long yardage third downs.

this is a Bryce Fitzgerald game. Ole miss is a less physical team vs Ohio state. Bryce’s field speed to Trinidad and having him in coverage when Trinidad scrambles will be key.

All it takes to throw a wrench in a drive for them is one play for no gain or a loss on a drive. Then they *** is ours

We gonna need to 250-300 rushing imo. I hate to put the ball in Beck's hand cuz Ole Miss dont need to be great on D, just need to get takeaways and its stacked in their favor. I think 250 rushing plus 200-220 from Beck gets it done. Also UGA is naive imo. They came into the game with 20 sacks, their pressure is anaemic and they played way too much man coverage. We wont make that mistake. Also Ole Miss D is average, its not really terrible.

Ole Miss has a top 5 offense according to every analytic model there is.

Saying, “well they scored 30+ on UGA earlier this year too” isn’t necessarily a knock on UGA’s defense.

Top 5 offenses tend to score 30+ on even really good defenses. That’s what makes them a Top 5 offense.

Literally every match up the rest of the way will be tough. This isn’t Stanford or Pitt anymore. But the inverse is true as well and that’s what I think has people hand wringing. We are good. Tough, deep and talented. Ole Miss has to game plan for us as well.

How do they stop our run game? Can they pressure Beck consistently, can their secondary mask the holes Stockton routinely missed last night? Yea Ole Miss’s offense could become problematic, but that’s their one bullet. It’s a **** good one, but if it’s not clicking next Thursday what do they do then?

Not reading 15 pages, so this has probably been covered:

I think Georgia would have been a tougher game, but Miami seems to be playing better as an underdog with a chip on their shoulder. Hopefully they keep that mindset even though Ole Miss is the underdog.

Chambliss is good, but he's inconsistent. He'll make an amazing throw and then the next play he'll bounce a 5 yard pass to an open receiver or back. Their defense has been average all season, but for the most part looked good last night. Honestly, they should have won that game by 2-3 TDs.

On paper, I don't see how they match up, but most people (not Miami fans) were saying Miami couldn't or didn't match up with Ohio State.
I didn’t notice any inconsistency last night. He was lethally accurate all game.

I agree our safeties on those throws I feel would’ve had something to say about it. Look I get everyone’s hesitation. But this is a different team from SMU and it’s show play the way we have for the last 2 months and we win comfortably

Yeah I like that idea better — post spring rather than post winter — but tbh I don’t think that can hold either.

Kids are going to want to transfer to practice w/ their new teams in the spring. Obviously mad money is being thrown around but getting to your new school a semester early has tons of benefits.

The two portal periods was madness but this Ole Miss-LSU ordeal had like a 1% chance of happening & it is knocking down the house of cards that is the ten day, one portal period in the heart of the playoffs.

I think transfers are going to have to be limited like scholarships. Because players’ freedom of movement can’t be restricted; my best recommendation is each team has 12-18 per year or something like that. Makes it more concrete. Even this proposal prob has a ton of unintended consequences.

It’s very tough to envision a solution that can holdup without Congressional support, and Congressional support seems extremely far away atm. Im not saying Congressional support will necessarily be good; I am saying that it will make the rules actually enforceable; additionally, possibly curtail the frequency of transfers as well as renegotiating of contracts

To me the whole thing devalues the playoffs. All these coaches are bailing. Players transferring out of the team and signing with new teams during the middle of the playoffs

It’s a mess

The D was not garbage.
You don’t dominate to this degree and have a garbage defense.

yes it was garbage. This is a football game, you have to factor in what is happening. All game I was pointing out how crap Georgia OL was. Stacy Searles doing Searles things. Georiga was getting beat up on the line each play. When they didn't completely get blown up it was easy picking. Ole Miss was trying to let em score at times.

Both of those teams have some big problems
