The Ole Miss Thread

it's a long watch ... but florida has a solid dline and you can take a few things from the game
ole miss outgained uf 538 to 326 ... lacy went for 200+ on the ground ... chambliss threw for 300+ ... and they only won by 10 ... at home ... take it a step further they were down 24-20 after three quarters ... uf had 11 possession, ole miss had 10

what struck me is uf got home for 5 sacks and some of it was done with pressures similar to ours using their dbs ... the also had 7 tackles for loss ... obviously the negative plays get negated with more possessions ... but that's a risky game to play vs us as we're known to squeeze clock ... uf had one possession over 5 minutes ... we had 3 vs. ohio state, with one possession eating 8 minutes of clock ... and all three possession ending in points ... ijs

Yessss! I love that teams keep putting these statements out there. This sounds strangely familiar as TAMU OL not thinking Bain was a real threat. Once again, I think this statement shows they may not be prepared for our level of physicality and violence.

This can all be true AND we played two really good pass defenses that knew how to cover him without another huge threat. Ole Miss doesn't match that level of pass defense. I hope this is a bit like the FSU or Pitt games where we just hit them on multiple fronts and keep them off balance. Marion is due for a deep ball at some point.
A&M and OSU, especially OSU, have NFL guys in their secondary. I don't think Ole Miss does.

I agree that Toney's skillset matches up better with Ole Miss's defense, certainly more than TAMU or Ohio State. That said, Toney has still been overworked for being a true freshman, and a young one at that. He should have a more limited role in the offense going forward. Keep in mind he still returns punts.

my only reply is this is the final four ... all the stars are overworked

In 50 pages I'm sure it's been said, but scheming for the two teams you've played against is kinda a CFP cheat, isn't it? This is a new ball game for these dudes, they haven't schemed much outside of the SEC teams this season.

Yes, i noted it previously. Given that the offensive coaches are doing double duty at LSU, I fully expect Ole Miss's gameplan to mimmick their game against UGA, which is the team most like the Canes that they've played.

Again, Toney had three fumbles in the past two games and lined up offsides on a critical 3rd down in the final minutes. Had that penalty been called, it could have changed the outcome of the game. There's no excuse for that, and the only justification I (and others here) can see is fatigue. He's a young freshman. The freshman wall is a real thing.

I'd rather see him have a reduced role than have him cause a critical turnover. He'll still get touches and opportunities, just within limits.

Reduced role for Malachi Toney is the craziest thing I’ve heard on CIS in a while. Who you wanna put out there? The Luna brothers?

Briles offense then likes to throw deep fade routes after they get you taking the bait. Poyser and Fitz are key.
If you can hit contested fades all day, which are low percentage throws, you tip your cap. Better than surrendering those uncontested 5-7 yards quick passes which are high percentage throws after providing a cushion

I have this strong gut feeling Mali is going to go crazy in this game. Last two games were different styles, with one impacted by weather. It think Mali goes ballistic in this game.

Mali had some crazy punt returns vs A&M prob ended up over 100 all purpose yards and obv the GW TD.

OSU he had multiple key conversions on 3rd down. He is THE guy on 3rd and 4th down in man coverage let’s not get it twisted. Better season than XR7’s legendary season last year.

He ain’t been a ghost by any means just cuz he’s not lighting up the stat sheet. And he’s still blocking hard asf

Limiting his role has nothing to do with less snaps. Just no MaliCat stuff where he takes snaps and runs off tackle. Use Marion for the jet sweeps. The frehman wall is real and exists for a reason.

Again, 3 fumbles in 2 games and lined up offsides on a critical play. Any one of those things could have cost the Canes the game against Ohio State. Get in front of it now.

I mean I’m not gonna debate you on this because this is just a flat out play to win the game or play not to lose debate.

I’m aggressive so I always like to play to win

Mali has no backup right now.. Johnson is hurt and Ray ray bounced..

I SOOO want to see that Marion jet sweep from the FSU game where they overloaded the run and Marion had like 4 OL running in front of him blocking. Had he slowed down he had 6. Ole Miss will be sitting on the run; just 1-2 wrinkles makes them hesitate.
