The Ohio State Thread

Carson Beck will outperform Mendoza in the playoffs. That’s my hot take for the day. I think he was great against TAMU, given the conditions, in executing the game plan. And I think he’s going to earn his money this week.
100. Not turning the ball over in those conditions a feat in itself. iIRC, he only put 1 ball in harms way - the red zone throw after he audibled when there were 3 A&M guys near the WR. He was our best play-caller too lol.

When we beat OSU he's going to be a big reason why. Won't have to put up huge numbers passing (would be cool tho), but I expect that he's going to be elite at deciphering what Patricia tries to disguise.

Got my tickets. I’m a little nervous about this game. Last time we played in the Cowboys stadium we got dominated by LSU. I was at that game. I need a different turnout next Wednesday.

I LOVE this, and I just hope the *'s coaches and players feel that way. IN fact, I'm OK with them going public with those feelings beyond what Jeremiah already said.

Saww-wee, but TAMU's OL is noticeably better than OSU's. They only played two DL's with a pulse (UT & IU), one was at home and the other was on a neutral field and they absolutely CRUSHED IT!!!!!!!!!!! They averaged 12 points per game, which means you're all world in Ohio.

Like I said, I hope the OSU* players believe this stuff.

I’m curios how Day handles the rat poison OSU is being given, there’s NOT much concern about OSUs chances.

Over the course of the year their average opponent FPI was 44.08 and that’s with Indiana included (#1 in FPI and they LOST) this is also with Penn state being ranked #17?!

Miami’s average opponent FPI is 42.16

If we look at opponents in the top 40 of FPI

- OSU wins by an average score of 25-11 against these opponents (stats are including the loss to Indiana) - 6 teams played in the top 40
- Miami wins by an average of 27.3-15.6 (stats include losses to UL & SMU) - 8 teams played in the top 40

- Miami has played 5 top 25 offenses (based on PPG & YPG): ND, USF, Pitt, Texas A&M, FSU
- OSU has played 2. (Indiana & Washington)

- Miami has played 3 teams that are top 25 in passing yards per game
- Ohio state has played 0.
(In fact 6 of Miami’s opponents are ranked higher than OSU’s first opponent pops up) Miami has played 6 of the top 42 passing offenses, OSU’s first opponent is Texas ranked at 43

- Miami has played 5 teams in the top 40 in rushing offense (going 5-0 against them), OSU has played 2 (going 1-1 against them)

- Each team has played 3 top 25 defenses (based on YPG) (each team went 2-1)
- outside of Indiana (who OSU lost to) Miami is the BEST OVERALL team OSU will have faced

- Miami has faced 5 offenses ranked higher than OSU, OSU has played 1 offense ranked higher than Miami’s
- OSU will be the best defense Miami has played, Miami will be the 2nd toughest defense OSU has played.

OSU is TALENTED, but they’ve been getting praise left and right. They will have to manufacture a chip on their shoulder.

I would argue Miami is more battle tested over the course of the year than OSU is too…I’m not convinced OSU starts the game as a well oiled machine either.

I think Miami has a chance to take OSU by surprise.

Pressure is a privilege man. Blessed to be able to stress over games this time of year again, not the Pinstripe Bowl and Sun Bowl. I’d rather be the underdog in the Quarterfinals than the favorite in the Pop Tart Bowl

I’ve never seen opposing team’s fanbase and social media talk about us like this since fsu went on that run against us.

At least they respected the fact that anything can happen with rivalry games.

They are laughing at us during their podcasts. They’re downplaying any negative stats like their running game and acting like their offense is 2017 lsu.

Wow. Like no respect at all. It’s as if they can’t believe our audacity to say we can even line up against them at any position.

As one fan said in one of their pods “in what universe does anyone think that Miami is a risk for Ohio state”
They’re gonna be in for a rude awakening on New Year’s Eve. When they see and feel how we play in the trenches, they’re gonna feel this.

They think they are invincible. They haven't trailed by more than 7 points at any point in 21.5 games. They steamrolled 3/4 playoff teams last year. 2 of those games were over before the midpoint if the 2nd Q; the ND game was over after they scored the TD coming out of half. They won the natty. They were dominate this year up until the IU game.

I think they will crumble if we get up 2 scores on them. We need to start fast on offense and hold off their initial flurry, because I expect them to go for the knockout early since it worked so well for them last year in the playoff.
Us jumping on them early as the key. The thing about Ohio State this year is, they start off slow and they’ve just been off for over three weeks. We gotta jump on a fast and keep them rusty all game.

Miami is going to have to find a way to manufacture points, and move the ball consistently. This is definitely the most talented defense at all 3 levels we have seen. We cant have a gun-shy Beck and win this game. He has to be aggressive and throw some WR open. We will not dink and dunk our way for 13 play drives. Their front 7 is super aggressive and fast, and those WR screens will have little success.
We will be able to run this team consistently, they have not seen an offensive line or a running back combo of thunder and lightning like ours all season. This week minded obsession with some of our fans, making their defense out to be the 85 bears is complete BS. When we continue to hit them right in the mouth, you’ll see the reality of our advantage in the trenches over and over again.

It’s crazy how everyone acknowledges we are better at the LOS yet they pick them to beat us. Usually the best team in the trenches wins. This game will be no different. Canes by 7.

Well, their season stats and draft grades of the players all over the defense deserve respect. Oh, and they are the defending National Champs. Describing respect as “Weak minded” is a little much, considering an elementary football fan can see they have studs on defense. But go ahead champ, pound your chest.
