Honestly I don’t think Ohio State has an exceptional offense. I think it’ll mostly come down to our DBs 1on1 with their two WRs.
I feel like our gameplan should basically be the exact same as last week except instead of a qb spy constantly and no blitzing we will blitz Lbs a little more often and we should have Fitzgerald in single high playing deep all game. So essentially trade the qb spy for the WR deep spy basically. Otherwise we have to shut down their run game and our safeties need to take away the TE. I don’t know I’m actually quite confident in our defense holding them under 17. I fully expect Ohio State to to use the quick pass game like Louisville. Sayin has been one of best QBs in quick plays. And that’s how you eliminate our 4man pass rush. But ultimately except for Tate and Smith just winning jump balls or deep shots, I have a LOT of confidence in our defense shutting them down.
It all comes down to offense and beating them. Ultimately Patricia is a good DC who can disguise and trick QBs with the best of them particularly with 3 weeks to prep. And they have ELITE LBs play and great DBs. I think their main strength on DLine is as Run Defensers. Their biggest matchup on the line of scrimmage imo is Brockermeyer vs McDonald their biggest matchup run stuffing DT. This guy has been dominating Double teams all year. We have to have a run gameplan to make Brockermeyers job way easier. We saw what happened early season when we asked too much of him vs really big DTs. I promise that wiont work this game if we over use it. Again not saying we can’t use A gap and Duo but we need to have an assorted run gameplan. Can’t be vanilla. And we MUST test their CBs. And Downs is great if he’s just allowed to play in the box and we run condensed sets. I want to see a lot more 3-4 WR this game than we have used all season. Get Downs away from run support. That has to be a priority.
Ultimately offensively this game comes down to Beck. It’s funny I see everyone comparing Beck to Goff. Well who remembers when the Rams played the Lions and then the Patriots in the Super Bowl? I’d expect a similar gameplan there. Bring 5-6 guys to the LOS confused the Oline about which is coming and show one thing presnap and quickly shift what you do on the backend to fool the Qb. Patricia is the one who put the gameplan to beat that Rams offense that year and then Belichick copied it for the Super Bowl. We NEED Beck to have a good game. And we MUST have a successful intermediate pass game.
So offensively the game comes down to Beck and the WRs. And defensively it comes down to our CBs.
