The Official Eat Crow and Thank Manny Diaz Thread

No point in asking or expecting people raise their hands on calling themselves out. People will twist and qualify what they said earlier in the season and throughout. This board was out for Manny's head. Plain and simple. And, there were reasonable concerns. At the time, I thought they were too extreme and said so. I kinda feel like they're going to go too extreme in his favor now, too.

It's not really trying to play both sides; more like just accepting his work for what it's been and what it can be: he's been a wildly aggressive guy who depends on certain things happening for his playcalls to work. What he's become infinitely more impressive at doing is adjusting consistently. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. But, ****, at least there's continuous adjustment.

Perhaps that's a low bar, some will say. I think it's the ultimate judge of modern coaches: do they recognize strengths and weaknesses and quickly adjust? Our yards/play, how we've performed against opponents relative to their season averages, and primarily his 3rd down conversion % turnaround all speak for themselves. Even with a couple overpursuits and a missed tackle on the edge, today was perhaps the defense's most impressive 4 quarter display.

Diaz gave designed several front looks that I've not seen him do in his 3 years in Miami. Pitt's OL and Pickett were absolutely lost and it led to a couple of sacks.

The guy has been awesome. My favorite part is that he is the exact opposite of that stubborn mule Richt in that he is constantly self evaluating and adjusting.

- he has proven to be a master at half time adjustments
- last year the d struggled in 4-3 and thrived in nickel, so he went out and implemented the striker role
- fair criticism before was that his blitzes were not getting home. Not the case anymore, we are constantly getting home

I’ll give Diaz props. He calls an aggressor type of game and like it. Would rather go down fighting than be permissive like the O. Sure, the attack style leads to over pursuing at times resulting in big plays but overall Diaz makes adjustments and his D tightens up.

We need an offensive mentality that delivers the same. Can only hope CMR realizes and acts on it.

Manny's guys have bought in to his system and play as such. He's very much engaged and it shows on the sideline. He's definitely my pick for the Broyles.

2 things I've noticed as the season has progressed is his halftime adjustments have been incredible and he's not substituting as much. Practically shuts down the opposing offense in the second half and the substitutions have become more situational.

The stats don't lie. There were some lapses here and there but were mostly few and far between. One helluva year for the D.

Fans wanted Diaz gone after year 2. It’s almost as if the fans shouldn’t make emotional decisions on coaches.

and those adjustments happen quicker than they used to.

Manny adapted to cover the few weaknesses we had on defense.a lot people on here wish cmr would've done the same on offense.ill say it again with the weapons we had and knowing how the oline was.cmr should've last yr went to the spread and stay with until the oline gets to where it can do the power game as well.
U have an IQ above 60.

Mork apparently does not.

Despite our feelings about the offense, Richt made a great hire with Manny. He's got this hire right and two DLine hires.

Now, if only he can fix the offense.
Mork fvcked up 2 out of 3 units.

D is great. Thanks Diaz. Everything else sucks. Fvck u mork.

Man I love these people that never post anything and go around hitting dislike or dumb or disagree. Why don't they post instead and entertain us.

I’ve maintained that Manny’s defense is fun to watch. The biggest flaw on the board is expecting perfection. People absolutely rip coaches and players for any big plays or touchdowns given up but that stuff happens. Overall, we could have won a championship with our defense.

I didn’t get to watch the game so I’ll catch it in the morning. I’m glad to see they played well enough to serve up some crow!
This is what cracks me up around here to.

I will eat crow for sure from the standpoint I was really concerned when Richt hired him. Sometimes in life its more about it being the right fit. Diaz has proven to be a great fit here and from a coaching standpoint has proven more than capable. Its been a **** pleasure watching his defense the past 2 seasons and seeing great player development.

great post. it is absolutely necessary today to have an offense that can get yardage in big chunks and score a bushel of points.
Considering the O inability to sustain drives just makes what the d that much more impressive

“Nobody wanted him gone”
Look at that thread. Some pretty popular names on this board wanted him gone two months ago.
Ah I see your point lol.

I wouid agree wanting manny gone after last year was very very premature. But I think most of us were pretty happy with him.

All the reasons why I thought manny was doing a good job are the same reasons I think richt is not. So after 3 full seasons of seeing these problems not being addressed, I Don’t think wanting richt gone is emotional at all.

It’s based on objectivity not emotion.
