Not true. For a 3-4, 2-gap system to work, you need that. But for a 1-gap system you don't. Look at Wade Phillips and what he ran at Dallas with Jay Ratliff at NT and now Sylvester Williams. His systems allows DLinemen to get up the field but requires ILB to take on blockers that traditional 3-4 defense try to eliminate.

No point in arguing with idiots. Some have no clue the differences between defenses. Some of these. Fans are just stuck on Goldens terrible 3-4 and say all 3-4s are terrible. Some of best defenses in football 3-4s and that includes college.
