The new ST Coach

The fact that can say this knowing our special teams cost us a **** ton of games in 3 years is baffelling.

Opening kick in the pinstripe bowl was out of bounds.

How many times did feagles put us in horrid field position?

Cmon
First off, 90% of the job is personnel. Baxa was a pretty good kicker as a freshman but it not's like Hartley was teaching him technique. ST is a glorified GA role at the CFB level if it was a dedicated slot. Bama's ST coach is also their TE's coach. Same deal with Clemson.

getting a punter in solves 90% of the ST problems. Brook Wilson sending @WhatTheHell nudes solves the other 10%.
Weird thing about punting. During the bowl games I have noticed that the very best punts came from full extension of the leg. Seems sellf evident. Feagles kicks were consistently made with a partially bent leg, as if he lacked flexibility. Maybe we should also add a yoga instructor to S&C.

2 summers in a row kicking coaches were brought in to help ZF including former UM punter, Dan Lundy, who now trains all kinds of ST guys. He was there for Fall Camp. Yoga may have worked but he needs a psychologist more than anything. I've seen tweets or some social media that says they do yoga. Not sure how often or if mandatory. It was a Gus thing.

One of the things I miss most about college football in general is that the punt block is basically non-existent anymore. Other than Nesta splattering that dude back into the Sav St punter I don't really recall any of our guys even getting close to blocking a punt, and we weren't really even trying. And that seems to be the norm in college now. Kinda sad.

One of my all-time favorite Cane moments was Tremain Mack blocking that WVU punt for the win. Seems like that kind of play has been completely eradicated from the game.

Back on topic - hopefully this is a step in the right direction with Patke, although admittedly I hold out very little hope for improvement. We shall see.

Haven't seen anyone else post this but in Manny Navarro's latest article he mentioned that sources told him that Patke would be the new ST coach.

Not good. I was hoping they would bring in Butch to coach ST.

Yes Special Teams are important. But it's still not 1/3rd of the game of football. And if we want to be honestly it's not even about the entire special team unit, it's mostly about 2 players - Kicker and Punter.

Saying ST is 1/5th of the game is being generous. ST is usually only on the field no more than 20% of plays in a game. A **** special teams can obviously ruin a game for you...but I'd rather have a **** special teams unit than a **** OFfense or Defense. You know why? Because O/D are CLEARLY more important. Which means ST is not 1/3 of the game.

Won't be shocked to see Banda as Co-DC with Baker when everything is formally announced. Banda keeps his promotion, but Baker calls the D.

And giving Patke ST also aligns with him maintaining the coordinator promotion from Richt.

Was fairly obvious, but still bump-worthy

Patke’s gotta be a real cerebral dude for him to come outta no where and them keep trusting him. At least the positive part of me is banking on that.

I hear ya. But who the **** can recruit on the defensive staff? Recruiting is the thing that's boggling me about the staff so far.

Well now we get to see why he was so highly thought of and how analytical he is. Let's see what he does with special teams. I imagine our special teams still look like ***

I dnt know if we have that assassin on staff. But i think the core of fixing D recruitment is winning and putting “names” in the nfl first 2-3rounds. Our players gotta make these award finalist list every year. And continuing top 5 defense. Imo the scene is what it is. We are getting out bidded and cant do crap bout it.
