The New darlings of South Florida

I attend graduate school in upstate New York. On average, about 7,000 students go to school here, and besides me, I maybe saw one other kid wearing Cane gear in my last five years here.

That all changed after Miami's win over Virginia Tech — kids all over campus were wearing Miami clothes, throwing up the U, and stopping me when they saw me wearing my Cane gear to say, "Go Canes!" It's remarkable, and I remind you: this is fricken upstate New York. More proof that the Canes are a national brand.

I know it's an unpopular opinion to some but the city of Miami has more buzz and is a better sports town when the Canes are relevant. Yes even surpassing the Dolphins. My mom told me back in the 80s it was the Canes that gave the city something positive to look forward to and got people through bad times..especially during the riots. I'm glad I got to experience the 2000-2002 team. It's time for another ring.

I put my Canes flags on my truck every Saturday, even when we sucked. I always have a Canes hat sitting on my dashboard too. Nobody blinked an eye or said anything. Now I have people flashing the "U" at me in traffic almost daily. (and I'm in Bradenton) Like people go nuts, beeping and ****. My truck is custom painted green so it kinda looks like an official Canes vehicle.

I wear Miami stuff around town and it always sparks up a conversation now. Dude hollered "how bout them Canes" from across the parking lot a few days ago.

The buzz is definitely noticeable.

when I was on my flight to the ND game that Saturday morning, people were making comments about the big game that night ( even the pilot of the first flight I took to my layover in Washington DC as I was exiting the plane). Even on my social media accounts people will bring up the Canes to me. There's definitely a buzz about Miami football

It's amazing. I'm in N. Georgia and everyone know the state of our team. Everyone is saying how we hit the lottery with the Richt hire. We've been waiting a long time for this moment, Canes Fans.

Wish I were in Miami for this high. When I was at UM, I remember accidentally walking into a seminar room and finding a beloved professor with two students. The students were Reggie Wayne and Santana Moss. Miami and UM will remain high points for me.

It's not just in South FL. I live outside Oklahoma City and I have had several people positively mention the Canes when they see my front license plate or Canes hoodie. Of course, Sooner fans don't say much as they know the sleeping giant has awakened with a fury! Looking forward to the ACC Championship game in Charlotte...sitting in section 131. Go Canes!!!

I was in the airport with my girlfriend after the nd game and was routinely congratulated and flashed the U👍👍👍! And this was in Chicago! It a happening boys. Enjoy it!

dawg i seen turnover chains out in england... forreal. I got my mechanics throwing up the U at me on a monday because they caught the game on BT sport that weekend and know I went there. **** is wild. 305 to worldwide.

This is what I come to the Board to learn.

It's posters like you that should get a infraction. What a miserable human being you are.

I want to thank all of you who are posting great stories really enjoying reading how the Country is embracing our Canes.

Lot coming out of woodwork in Brevard County too. Lot of customers coming up to me and talking about the Canes. Even many non Canes fans are rooting for us here.

Miami has always had a presence In upstate ny

If Schnellenberger, Johnson, or Davis had stayed, how many more NC's would Miami have? They all had NFL aspirations. Richt doesn't. Now we get to see what happens with a good coach who's not going to bolt to the NFL if he wins a championship.

If Art stayed he would of had a Bobby bowden type of career just with a lot more championships. If Jimmy stayed, imo he would of been the greatest coach ever and the canes would be probably in the top 2 of all time chips. If butch stayed he would of had a Pete Carroll type of career but like Art, just more championships

completely agree with all this...it's really too bad that Miami has never been a true destination job like other college programs

Where in brevard you from? Cocoa has a mixed bag, but became a strong Gator lean for awhile there.

The Canes are the original South Florida Team. Good to see how S. Fla is excited again about the Canes.

The original Miami Team... it really is all about the U

I'm in Phoenix, AZ.

Two days ago, in the middle of the highway, someone saw my Canes license plate, drove up right next to me, rolled his windows down and threw up the U and screamed "GO CANES!"

We back.

Toronto Canada checking in here. Hockey crazy up this way, but somehow people know about the U here too. Gotta say, a lot of Michigan and ND and USC fans here, but when I was at a Wild Wings watching the ND game and I was hooting and hollering nd throwing up the U, the RIGHT WAY, I was getting pats on the back and hand shakes like crazy.

My close friends and relatives know of my love for the program, so it was insane the kudos I am getting for this team. Loving it. Drinking it up, and hoping beyond hope that U merch finally comes BACK ... To TORONNNNTO ....

I was watching our UVA game at a restaurant/bar in Orlando. This isn't the first time I've watched a game at this specific location in the past few years. I'm usually the only Cane's fans in the entire building though. Well this time there were several guys scattered around the restaurant who were cheering for the Canes. I thought I was the only one until Miami made a big play and I heard claps/cheers from all over the restaurant.

Not surprised as many people originally from soFla have moved to central Florida, no?

I live in the Annapolis (MD) area and the other day I went to local supermarket after gym wearing an old Canes'
hoodie when a dude in the supermarket who has been working there for years starts asks me if I have a "Turnover Chain".
Stunned.
LOL.

There are a lot of cane fans in the DMV area.

Yes indeed.
Alot of folks up here who grew up in soFla and/or graduated from UM.
Also, other folks just like coming down to party.
This is a region I feel we should do recruiter better.
Lots of talent in these parts.
