Not to drift off topic, living here in LA and watching the Saints growing up, old Archie was not good nor was he terrible. He was on a terrible team who's ownership were too cheap and too dumb to surround him with decent talent. Now as for the Texas Arch, and again, I am not that bright, but I just dont get the hype this kid gets for average play. Yeah he had moments late last year but will that carryover is the $10M dollar question.

I keep hearing this but I’m not quite understanding it. Those two barn burners against 5 win Kentucky and Miss State were part of that 2nd half of the season along with that 4 score laugher of a loss against Georgia. Manning played good against Arkansas. A 2 win team. I don’t put much stock in the TEMU victory. I mean, how bad do we really think these guys wanted to play another game against Georgia before CFP play? As a fan, I wouldn’t have cared all too much. They got what they thought was a favorable matchup against us at home, and you know what, they might have been one of the best teams in the entire CFP field and with a CFP lock in the back of their minds and a desperately desperate Texas team playing at home, it just doesn’t feel like a big win for the Horns considering it was their Super Bowl and TEMU’s walkthrough practice.
I agree but im not fully understanding the certainty that they’re natty contenders now. I guess people are seeing last year as like a gap year? Idk but i think more people have them winning the natty than any other team lol its kinda odd
May be hard to believe because Texas recruits great but their supporting cast wasn’t really good last year. Oline/wr/rb were all mid overall, that’s why they fell off
All I will say when it relates to Texas is there a lot more legitimate than they were last year. That being said they came in to last year where I thought Arch was ready. As we learned he clearly wasn't. His level definitely went up as the season progressed but we'll have to see that in real time this season. However you can't negate the fact those boys spent a lot of money and brought in a lot of time to surround Arch and particular and already had a legit defense. Arch progress well just have to see. But man they got some weapons. On par with us and Ohio State when it relates to those weapons.
All his losses are forgiven because they were to the eventual champion or champion contender. Which is kinda sad because most of those games were not competitive for 4 quarters. I mean he beat OSU in the regular season then got spanked by them in the playoff.
I made the mistake assuming you guys understood that the difference in schedules was the offset for the talent levels.
It all comes down to the OL. Last year they were 32 in Pass protection and 21st in Run blocking per PFF. They added one tackle from Wake Forest who is a glass half full/empty addition. Their OL coach Kurt Flood, is literally 129/138 OL coaches and instead of firing him they spent their money on a defensive coach. While usual preseason is all positive, the article is trying to make the pitch that it could be positive if everything breaks right. Their HC is already crying that at 9-3 they should be in the playoff - sounds like a soft, excuse making culture to me. I'll believe Texas is back when I see it.
Of course not, the discussion is about playoff teams and they can only see that on TV for the forseeable future.
Go look up the pass defense numbers of the teams Texas played last year and get back to me.

Dude had 116 passing yards against Kentucky. For those who don’t know, Kentucky’s defense ain’t very good. I mean they got manhandled by Louisville 41-0. You know, that team we lost to that was just sooooo detrimental to our resume because they were “unranked” despite boat racing Kentucky, beating another CFP team (James Madison), and had a stellar season. Yet, somehow some way, Missiouri finishes the year ranked in the top 25 with the same amount of wins but not a single win over a team .500 or above. SEC bias bias bias.
