The money has gotten obscene in college athletics

It’s not lazy, it’s intelligent. I recognized that you have only stale arguments against paying athletes and that they are not based on current thinking and trending legal cases, yet you want me to entertain you? Nope. Your argument is stupid.

I rest my case.

Current thinking? You can find the same worn out arguments in Sports Illustrated in the 1980's. College athletes aren't going to be paid.

No, amateurism goes out the window. Its already a business except its being run like the mafia. Just legitimize it. Its already being done all over Europe. Every top soccer player (and i believe their basket players also) went to some soccer or basketball school.

There are a hundred questions that you haven't answered with the "just go ahead and pay them" strategy.

As i said, title IX is a dumb law. Going private and separating from the universities takes of that

Oh, you just want minor league football, not college football. Well that's a whole separate argument. And it fall flat since no one will pay to watch minor league football. People watch college sports because of their allegiance to a university. No one will watch a minor league football team based in Miami. And it will go away when they don't make any money to support it.

I agree with you. The universities are the draw and the athletes are filler - same as the NFL, the athletes cant carry a league without the Branding.....when i go down this line of thinking, i question my stance but the bottom line is the athletes are ultimately employees.

That’s the plan.

And we’ll be the very short end of this stick. These stats show we ain’t apart of the game. The only thing keeping us afloat is the NCAA regulations. Paying players will sink us. We will be 2 star & low 3 star heaven b/c all the top players will go to the highest bidders and the school that pumps out the most merch.

What sucks the most is our brand is one of the most recognizable in sports and our AD doesn't run this program like a business.

We should be marketing the **** out of it and playing as many games as possible like the rest of the big boys because we have the money to do so.

Flake aint about that life.
Hear, hear

The phrase is "with all due respect". You'll get to that in your studies, eventually.

Cute...lol

The players generate all this money.. they should see some of it..

Have you always felt this way, or are you parroting this new movement? Real ?, no shade. I’m asking b/c I used to feel this way until I actually hung out w these guys. So just curious

Modest? That's a ridiculous characterization of all the benefits they receive for their participation on an athletic team playing a game. Did the proletariat headquarters provide you with these talking points?

Socialist screed aside, what may happen if paying players becomes reality? If athletes are going to be paid, who chooses which players get paid? The fair market? How much? Football players get more than field hockey? Does a "basketball" school pay more for basketball players than a "football" school does? Do women get the same stipend as men? Title IV won't just go away. How many sports teams will be discontinued due to the lack of funding at smaller schools? Olympic sports get the same pay as the money makers? Of course none of this will trickle down to the high school level. It already has but at least it has been shunned and has repercussions (if caught). What happens to penalties if there are no scholarship reductions anymore? Current players pay for past players "crimes" by forfeiture or post season bans? I could go on.

You're the one who sounds like they got your talking points from The Party. Those are questions the market literally answers everywhere else just fine. It boggles my mind that college sports is somehow some crazy exception that we need the guiding hand of the NCAA to run for us otherwise chaos and inequality will rip apart the fabric of our fragile society.

The current system? Corrupt, no question. Is it fair to the players? I think so. They're not forced into anything. They get benefits beyond what any of us regular schulbs got in college. I worked my way through school and then paid back my loans. The cost of school has skyrocketed. If you want to talk about propping up something with tax dollars and policy you should focus there. But that's a discussion for an off-topic thread.

LOL. NCAA: Corrupt, but fair. You should print that on a T shirt and wear it around so everyone knows what a dip **** you are.

You understand that college football is a multi-BILLION dollar industry subsidized by taxpayers and propped up by federal, state, and local public policy, right? The value that student-athlete provides far outpaces the modest indirect payment that they receive while the institutions they play for (and their business partners, consultants, and intermediaries) are making money hand over first.

I bet you believe professional athletes get paid too much as well. For every $100M contract, there is an owner that is making $300M of his back.

@Manuel Diez oh look, Bernie sanders has an account on CIS, you are a trolll and will soon be banned

The ****?

Nope, nowhere in there does it require that they give up rights to their likeness, make money, etc. but some ******* thinks living like a king is wearing Nike, adidas, etc and being fattened up.

Living like a king includes having everything paid for. Literally everything.

If you want things to be fair between athletic scholarships and non-athletic scholarships, let's use the same entrance requirements. Deal?

Billion dollar organization$- Industry making an killing literally off of poor inner city and good old small town country kids.

See my profile pic-You all already know how I feel about this!

@321>CANES<305 billion dollar industry that gives kids with "blessed talent privilege" to get an education paid for so if they don't make it in football they can get a job, an opportunity to showcase their talents FREE OF CHARGE to make it to the NFL, an opportunity to get better coaches, better nutrition, to build their talent so they can make millions in the nfl. sure wish I had that opportunity.
