The Main Difference Between Butch and Al

I find it hilarious and sad that Butch Davis, the guy who took UM from the depths of probation and bad PR and created the greatest roster in the history of the sport cannot get consideration from UM because the university management is still upset at the way he lied to people's faces when he left the program for the NFL. Yet it is these very same people who will support Al Golden because he is a positive face of the program in the media.

The punchline here is that, IF AL WERE OFFERED THE PED STATE GIG, he would have left in the exact same manner as Butch. So I guess the critical difference between Al and Butch is that Al was not actually good enough to field another offer.

Strange logic from our university's elitist overlords, no??

NICE. I see your logic!

What's more: UM's failures have not so much been the bad hires, but rather the bad contract extensions they give out. Butch is in a perfect place for UM to be able to get him well below market value, no buyout, etc...

Indeed, they want to bring out Butch leaving since he had been good enough for securing a real offer and accepting it.

I'd add another extension to the difference. Easy to say that both coaches flirted with another gig with one being offered while the other was not.

But the extension of this difference and into Al is that even though Golden was NOT offered the PSU job, Al Golden had the audacity to claim that he was BEING offered the PSU job.

Be that he was being offered, albeit falsely, the PSU job, Al tried to negotiate and seek a raise from UM Admin even he had already gotten a huge extension from the same set of suckers.

UM Admin and officials know well of this charade that Al Golden tried to pull, yet they keep their own charade of Al Golden as this clean cut and honest Abe of college Football.

Actually, leaving for Penn State from Miami is 100x more of a slap in the face than leaving for the NFL. That's a bushleague move right there.

The NFL is the NFL. I was disappointed when JJ, Butch, and even Erickson jumped ship to the NFL. But I wasn't ****ed off like a jilted 12 year old girl.

Talking to Penn State is much worse than talking to the Dallas Cowboys - imo.

Seems like pretty standard liberal logic to me.

It's not that surprising. We're controlled by a small group of people that take more offense to what they perceive as personal slights than a garbage product on the field. ***** the fanbase for a decade? No problem!! "Lie" to me about wanting a NFL job?! You're dead to me forever!!! It's kind of how the only real negatives we hear about Alfredo from these people is that they weren't happy about how he communicated with them during the PSU debacle. Ohhhhhh, poor elitist babies!! None of them have any problem lying to us on what seems to be a weekly basis now.

"Miami Coaches for $1000, Alex"

"The Main Difference Between Butch and Al"

"What is one is a man and one is a eunuch"

"Correct for $1,000"

Does anyone ask themselves why Butch Davis has been passed over and/or not discussed for literally every single college football job outside of not even being able to be hired at FIU despite being free to go anywhere since July 2011?

Do you think he's just sitting at home because no team would cover the $1.8M he was owed from UNC in a contract with him? He was going to take a $500,000 a year job at FIU which would make him almost the lowest paid coach in college football and it still didn't pan out.

This is not a Miami/Butch Davis issue, the guy is blacklisted and it's pretty obvious to see that there's a much bigger reason why he's sitting on the sideline than "WELL MIAMI WONT HIRE HIM"

Yeah, this is the spin that's been floated by the folks on canes time premium for some time now. "Forget Butch. He's toxic..."

The reality is that Butch IS employed as a college football analyst for ESPN. Its not like he's standing on the corner with a cardboard sign that reads, "Will evaluate talent for food."

Its important to note that Butch was exonerated by the NCAA for the stuff at UNC. Its also important to note that Butch was the guy who cleaned up UM the first time around when the problems within the AD were much much worse than what Al's been through. Given that, I do not share your opinion that Butch is untouchable.

You lie.

Butch isn't "blacklisted."

Eight different investigations by NCAA and UNC, and Butch was clean.

It's public record.

So it takes a dishonest, lying sack of **** to try to slide that into a sentence as though it had any basis in truth. Jimbo.

Dude, you're just making **** up. Butch had agreed to take the FIU job, just like Petrino had taken that lower tier gig. Everyone at FIU knew he'd built the place up better than Cristobal, and then he'd jet to greener pastures. Problem is that UNC did not want for Butch to collect a check from both FIU and one from UNC. Had he been hired there, he might have been re-hired by a bigger conference college looking a real builder of champions, that re-hire would have paid UNC. UNC is short sighted. Had he done anything wrong volatile in terms of NCAA violations, rest assured that UNC would NOT be paying Butch anything, or far LESS than what they have been paying. How much do you think that little local FIU University is paying that coach that was accused of smoking blunt? Not much.

Oh btw, do you really think that FIU could pay off UNC?

Butch has been getting paid in full by North Carolina because he IS clean and WAS clean, as far all the investigations are concerned.
