The lights and distractions are bigger in Miami....

The epic fall of Tate Martell to easy p*ssy makes me realize what the UM Football program is truly facing...

The international epic center of South Beach with it's super stars, super models, super yatchs, and super-star players has become a huge carnival of distraction to your college athletes...

Imaging being some wide-eyed kid (mostly from humble roots) arriving to Miami and being bathed in the lights of SUPER Everything-- girls, money, power, luxury...

Imagine suddenly being invited to parties with J-Lo & A-Rod, with Jay-Z & Beyonce, with Lebron & Wade, with Whoever is big today....

Imagine being chased by packs of groupies who would drop to their knees and open their mouths if you just give them the signal...

Now also imaging wads of CASH$$ being slipped into your hands by boosters, fans, and every shady business man looking to win your favors to come be at their party and hang out with them....

This UM school is not what it was back in the 80's and 90's where it was still humble and was built on kids from Overtown and ghettos of south and central Florida....hungry to prove their worth, but didn't have the swanky South Beach and Miami lifestyle that exists today.

Miami is now the Beverly Hills of the South USA....

Full of temptations, distractions, and fame....

Now pretend your are some 18 year old kid showing up with expectations to go to classes and study 25hrs a week and put in another 15hrs at football practice.... but "don't you dare get distracted by the girls, the parties, the money, or the bling" of the Miami night life....

Good luck-- everyone of us on this board would fail in 1 week....

This is the battle Manny and every other coach before him has faced at Miami...

It's not just the football competition they fight-- they also fight the distractions of the glitter and the *****....

Tate Martel and Kiki Passo has just become the EXAMPLE of the temptations facing every Miami Hurricane today and in the future....and example of how ***, MONEY, FAME are the temptations most mere mortals have ZERO power to resist....

Now think about Bama, Clemson, UF, Georgia etc.... what i call the "KKK schools" where athletes run the risk of being shot or lynched if they leave the campus and touch the wrong family's white daughter.... No wonder those schools have athletes that focus and win big-- they don't have nearly the distractions that occurs in Miami....

Miami likely only has 2 schools with similar temptations-- USC and UCLA-- also located in a big time, star-studded, money-greased big city of temptations in L.A.

Until Miami begins the PAY-TO-PLAY program and pays bigger than most schools will we be back to the top....

CFB will become a "minor leagues of football" eventually....it'll take having a top 5 athletic payroll to win big in Miami...

Truth.

Even all that doesn't touch the fact this is a private school with 11K undergrads—with a fan base made up of mostly non-alumni who don't write checks.

Miami was able to get away with what it did in the 1980s-1990s, before it was a big money sport and the Canes had a decided advantage regarding speedy athletes—but that playing field was leveled long ago. Everyone has athletes now and the guys that used to stick around to play at UM are now being lured to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Clemson; programs with MONSTER seven-figure annual recruiting budgets that have a shinier sales pitch.

Alumni at big time SEC schools POUR money into their beloved alma maters—while Miami "faithful" put up billboards or fly banners as a protest; as one would a professional sports franchise they're disenfranchised with.

All the trappings of South Beach and Miami have always been there (granted, they're different for today's softer, social media-loving athlete)—but no bigger uphill battle for this program than what it faces financially, in comparison to alumni and loyalists at football factory-type schools who keep funneling in big cash to build a winner.

.... but yes, the fall of Tate Martell is a tragic one—another dude swallowed up by some out-of-his league broad. Can't imagine what a puddle he'll be if / when she breaks up with his *** and he's having those sleepless nights wondering who is sliding in to her DM's. That said, wouldn't be the first time ***** broke a Miami quarterback. Vinny's Fiesta Bowl meltdown and five picks against Penn State was always partially chalked up to his chick breaking up with him soon before the title game.

Miami had strip clubs, Luke Campbell and his group of rappers, former UM athletes paying for big hits, sports agents running ramped on campus, wild parties. UM guys never had to wait to get into clubs and it was well known back in the day that Miami Dolphin guys waited in line at clubs while the Canes got the VIP treatment. Yeah, no distractions.

There were just as much distraction as today. The difference is the old Canes took football very seriously. They worked their *** off to be the best. They challenged each other to be the best. The work ethics are seriously lacking with these Canes today. The passion to be a winner is the biggest difference.

I get what you're saying OP, but the tempations of Miami have been around for decades. I grew up there many decades ago and was very into the scene. Hard not to get laid by 10s as an athlete even with my ugly mug. You're not completely wrong by any means, but I know what the terrain was like down there for our first 2 Natty teams. Partied hard, but understood there is a time and a place for everything. Nothing was greater than football.
