The last time Miami played in Yankee Stadium...

Playing us is like banging a 70 year old former centerfold...just so you can say you did it. Only reason we were chosen...folks like watching our storied program get it face rubbed in the sheet

Well then ****! The source of the picture has it captioned incorrectly. My bad.
My best guess is the picture you posted was from 11/18/1972 in a game at Notre Dame. The temps were in the low 30s and UM almost upset ND, before losing 20-17.

We’ve had great qbs but Mira was the most exciting. He was one of the original scramblers. It was always an adventure.
Though he hailed from Key West, the cold didn’t affect him...
A quarter century later, his son, George Jr., played a mean MLB for us in our glory years.
Great information. I know the Mira's.

Cool story OP! My dad (retired FDNY) and mom (Brooklyn girl) always drove over from Punta Gorda to see George Myra play, I guess they figured I was too young to appreciate it, so I got to stay at a buddy's house and play football in the yard. My dad's sister lived in Miami and was a secretary for the Orange Bow parade.

Great stories to hear coming from another old man 😂. Glad to hear them and not all of the negativity that has become this site although I can’t say I haven’t gone off the dead end about Richt more than once. I have because I’ve been there through the good, bad, and the great. And never have I seen the program on as bleak of a life support as I do now. We need new, energized blood to come in and give us a shot in the arm of such that it revitalizes the kids and this storied program.

My old man caught a TD pass in that game #20
I remember your father well. Hoyt Sparks slipped in the corner near the flag and missed a TD at the end of that game that would have given us the victory.

I hated that game and hate the fact we are going to another Yankee Stadium game in December. I think we would have won in normal weather, not arctic weather.

I used to converse with you on Grassy. I remember Nick Spinelli who was the real Matador's favorite after All American Bill Miller left after George's sophomore season.

i still remember one of the networks did a preseason special and they featured early fall practices at UM. George was at QB and your father was playing flanker and running through plays with a big cast on his forearm. I think it was off by the time the season started.

i serm to recall your father went to camp with the Patriots, probably the old Boston Patriots.

The '70's were probably worse. The school gave serious thought to dropping football.

No thought if that now. We still have the confidence of our recent success (last third of a century) and belief we can rise to greatness again. We didn't have that in the late '70's.

We will survive the current malaise. I hope that Frenk and James will realize Richt hire was mistake.

I remember an interview with Nick. He said he would be working in the coal mines (or steel mills, I can't remember which) if he had not gotten a scholarship to play college football. Was he from Coraopolis? Trying to remember....

EDIT: Yep, it was Coraopolis. Is this your father on the left?

We would have won the game, but Hoyt Sparks was wide open on a pass that would have scored for UM only to slip on a patch of ice. I remember the game well, it was a heartbreaker to lose.

My dad told me about that game many times, and that was the play he always mentioned
