Playing us is like banging a 70 year old former centerfold...just so you can say you did it. Only reason we were chosen...folks like watching our storied program get it face rubbed in the sheet
Gotham Bowl game was 4 years before the Dolphins came into existence.
My best guess is the picture you posted was from 11/18/1972 in a game at Notre Dame. The temps were in the low 30s and UM almost upset ND, before losing 20-17.Well then ****! The source of the picture has it captioned incorrectly. My bad.
Great information. I know the Mira's.We’ve had great qbs but Mira was the most exciting. He was one of the original scramblers. It was always an adventure.
Though he hailed from Key West, the cold didn’t affect him...
A quarter century later, his son, George Jr., played a mean MLB for us in our glory years.
This is the best thread on this site in months
Do you have her number?Playing us is like banging a 70 year old former centerfold...just so you can say you did it. Only reason we were chosen...folks like watching our storied program get it face rubbed in the sheet
My old man caught a TD pass in that game #20
Geezer!
I remember your father well. Hoyt Sparks slipped in the corner near the flag and missed a TD at the end of that game that would have given us the victory. My old man caught a TD pass in that game #20
The '70's were probably worse. The school gave serious thought to dropping football.Great stories to hear coming from another old man. Glad to hear them and not all of the negativity that has become this site although I can’t say I haven’t gone off the dead end about Richt more than once. I have because I’ve been there through the good, bad, and the great. And never have I seen the program on as bleak of a life support as I do now. We need new, energized blood to come in and give us a shot in the arm of such that it revitalizes the kids and this storied program.
We would have won the game, but Hoyt Sparks was wide open on a pass that would have scored for UM only to slip on a patch of ice. I remember the game well, it was a heartbreaker to lose.
