The Keep Mark Richt Thread

Yea it sucks to lose to BC and Virginia. This is a down year for us. But posters here are quick to guillotine CMR and I don’t get it. It’s easy to see the offense sucks but it’s not like Richt is locking himself up in his office and game planning in a vacuum. The QB is bad, the OLine stinks, and the good receivers are still learning. It’s just what it is. We’re not Clemson yet so we can still lose to bowl teams like BC and UVA. Is it going to cut it for the next 2-3 years? No. But all the negativity is shortsighted, IMO.

1. The starter is a 5th year Sr. Why has he shown no improvement? Coaching? He throws late but we cannot fix the mechanics? Coaching? How about the RS Freshman. Why are his mechanics still an issue? Coaching? How about the true freshman? He came early, why can he not make it past 3rd team, and that is only when the other RS Freshman is suspended? Coaching? How is that recruit Jon racked up all those miles flying to CA. for working out. You know, the eggs in one basket kid. Coaching again, poor decision?

2. JT, Harley, Cager... are not good? Hightower came in and showed to be very good, why did he not have this learning curve? Excuses for a poor game plan perhaps, coaching?

3. You insist on dumbing down our team by telling us who we are not, rather than what we should expect. I don't want a team that likes participation medals. Reason how you will losing to UVA and BC. This mentality will have you still making excuses for another 15 years remembering the good old days.

This is the stage where some start tearing down the players - it's on them. All of it. Throw them under the Greyhound

All praise Richt, a bowl win and 10 wins, also the Coastal (don't forget about that). Last I checked we have 3 losses with four games left in the season, so who knows if this season will actually be an improvement. Recruiting, how's is it currently going? Still losing recruits in our own backyard (yeah, I know bags...), but what about to UF, even in their down time? Nutritionist, IPF... we won without it when we had competent coaching, remember the jokes about our facilities? They produced five NC's.

Yes, he does have his faults, that is why he is not at UGA. Sad thing is he apparently has not learned from his mistakes. So should we just sit patiently and wait why he stays stubborn in his ways? Play calling is not working, OL is very poor, LB's have become a non-factor, team comes out flat in games and does not look ready to play. So we as fans should be okay with this and more?

Acting like we're Bama, dude we were what Bama is now in the late 80's early 90's, not to mention 2000 and 2001, so why not now? I'll tell you if you don't know... Coaching and committing from the AD. Fix that and we can be The U we fondly remember. Just tired of hearing what we should not expect. Time to set expectations and make a commitment to them.
This is my point. It’s a different time and age. You think we were still going to play with the Big Boys w/o an IPF and nutritionist/psychologist/army of analysts who used to be SEC head coaches and are now working as glorified interns? I know what the program can be, but times are different. I remember going to the Micron PC Bowl and just being happy seeing Edge destroy NC State and Tory Holt getting handled or watching UM destroy Ga Tech in the Gator Bowl. You could see the progress. Those 80s and 00-02 Canes weren’t built overnight. Who didn’t second guess Butch after getting demolished by Syracuse or losing to Penn State in the last minute at the OB or even losing to Washington on the road in ‘00? I’m defending Richt cause I think he’s competent and he deserves time and cause he’s a f’n Cane. I’m not lowering standards, I just know what this team is right now and that it doesn’t mean that’s what we’ll be a few years from now.

I don't like tearing down the players, appreciate those that choose to wear the U. Not all of them are cut out for this level of football, but they and the fans deserve the best we can get out of them

Oh, understood, I actually agree with your post. But all these coach worshipers will do all they can to insulate Richt and just put it all on the players. That was really my point

Study our program’s history. You’re in your glory nitpicking everything. Let me put something in perspective. In his first 2 years Mark Richt did something at UM that had not been done since 2006 (win a bowl game) and since 2003 (10 win season). He’s already been our most successful coach since Butch, Coker seriously just took the Stallions and ran them to the ground. If Richt continues handing the program 8-9 win seasons year after year then yea that’s not what we are. But until then, chill, criticize what deserves criticism, but enough of the Mork and Al Golden nonsense. Makes us look uninformed.

I think the reason people are calling for Richt's head is because when we hired him people wanted to believe that he would be rejuvenated, energized, and most importantly learned from the mistakes he made at UGa.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that way. We're seeing 15 years of UGa football under Richt manifest in just 3 seasons here. The big game no shows ('16 VT, Clemson, Wisconsin, LSU), Losing to teams you have no business losing to (BC, Pitt loss ranked #2, UVa, 4-8 ND in '16), poor special teams, mismanagement at QB, offensive woes despite talent supposedly being an "offensive genius" while making 4 Million a year only to produce bad offenses and underachieving team.

Not only that, but we're starting to find out why UGa cuffed Richt as much as they did. He is a respectable man off the field but wins enough to keep him from being fired. So as a program your stuck in dilemma where you can't really fire him because he wins JUST enough to raise arms if you do but you know he isn't good enough to get you to where you really want to go (playoffs).

These type of post show the warped thinking of lot of people and those who dont know thei history well. For people to keep regurgitating the "coach richt was at UGA for 15yrs" mantra are clueless. What was UGA doing before he got there in 2000, than by the time he got UGA up and running at a high level, oscar cryer was with the gaytors who were already use to beating up on UGA and oscar cryer took over the program after 2 strong recruiters in ron zook and charlie strong round 2005, than saban came in round 2007 into a program where shula recruited well, so those were the coaches coach richt was going head to head with and was 1 or 2 plays away from playing for a title or 2. Like bobby bowden and switzer, if it wasnt for us, those 2 would have more championships. Took ole bobby 17yrs to get his 1st one and 23yrs to get the 2nd one.

Coach richt is back home recruiting better players that all of college football want, its just a matter of time now. People are mad only because of all the winning that took place last year, anybody counting the wisconsin game as some how coach richt's fault didnt watch the game. With no Ahmon, no herdon or walton and they still barely beat us with all that help from the refs. This team has alot of talent, but its young physically immature offensive talent, once its developed, than make a proper analysis, right now its pathetic to try and act as if one of the winninest coach in college football was somehow a failure at UGA only because he didnt win a national title their. Coach richt has probably the best resume of any headcoach to take over UM, his resume is better than schnelly, jimmy, dennis and butch, so let the man do what he needs and know to do at his alma mater.

I just spoke to Kenneth’s good friend Stewart.

Stewart does not think we should keep Mark Richt.

Lol at the excuse being ipf. Been hearing about facilities excuses since Coker.

Syracuse is a better team than we are this year. That’s on Richt. Hasn't developed a qb yet who can replace rosier. Who do you fault for that?

So the argument is that if Richt had only been able to coach against worse opposing coaches, he’d have won more games in the SEC?

I agree!

First post, and going to be an unpopular one. People are beating down Mark Richt like he hasn’t done some things in 2 seasons. First bowl game win in a decade, first 10 win season in more than a decade, some coherent recruiting classes, a new IPF, a nutritionist.
Does he have his faults? Yes. Is he aware he needs to change? I think so. Has this year been a disappointment? Yes. But some guys in here acting like we’re Bama which has Nothing but football and gymnastics. Also acting like he’s brought the program down, rather than actually improving it.
No more Negative Neds. Your schtick is old and tired.

Trust me on this, just like last year, the Canes could be undefeated at this juncture and the mob would be whining and complaining about numerous things. Last season, during a 10 game win streak and at one point being ranked as one of the top 4 playoff teams you would have thought the Canes had lost 10 straight games.

Never has a group (the mob) who thinks they know so much, known so little.

If you are in for some fun reading skim the archived game day threads from last year. They are truly stunning in their combined idiocy. You will find all of the football luminaries (the mob) sharing their deep thoughts (hate). During that fantastic winning streak on countless occasions, the mob demanded that coaches Richt and Diaz be fired, along with every assistant coach and they benched or kicked off the team most every player (they are now calling for Coach Diaz to be promoted to head coach).

Know this...the mob is thrilled by the results of this season because it allows them to spread even more upvote, attaboy hate and nonsense, which makes them feel important.

Finally, your words are accurate and offer a fair view as to what has transpired since Coach Richt took the helm of a program that was in a death spiral (NCAA President Mark Emmert; "The death penalty is on the table".

Assume I'm just "nitpicking" that I think coaching was horrific in our loss tonight to Duke, F***ing Duke! Nice time management at the end of the game don't you think? Absolutely pathetic coaching, but keeping trying to hide the reality.

By the way, we lost to DUKE! UVA, BC and Duke, yes UM lost these three in a row.
