The Freshmens (Shaq)

I expect shaq to make freshman mistakes and to be occasionally overmatched at the point of attack. He will play competently but don't expect the Shaq that we will see as an upperclassman
You think he might be better as an upperclassman?

Only thing that would have held him back this year was too much thinking. He seems like a kid that demands perfection from himself.

Still may slow him here and there but obviously the regime change is massive for a kid like Shaq. Can't wait.

Why so you say he will be overmatched. Have you ever seen dude? This is not Golden's hand fight defense. He will be in the backfield a lot. Hope he knocks Dalvin out the game.

Freshman wall? I can care less...as long as he blast Dalvin Cooks a$$ everytime he touches the ball and we beat the brakes off of Florida State.

If this was a "read and react" scheme, the mental aspect of the game sould have been for any linebacker, especially a middle linebacker. This scheme is catered to his skill set because he gets to attack. During the spring Shaq mentioned that the defensive scheme that Diaz implemented was very similar to the scheme that he had at Oak Leaf for the previous 4 seasons. He will be fine!

I have to admit that I'm a bit nervous... there is a lot expected of him ... a lot of hype that he has to live up to... He knows this too, he feels the weight on his shoulders... but I expect for him to excel... The game is going to be a lot faster... the players a lot bigger and stronger than what he is use to but I tell him that's not an excuse "Man up to the task at hand". It may sound crazy but I think him starting as a Freshmen in HS was a bigger transition than he is about to face and that's because he is more prepared for this transitions even though the level of competition will be far more superior than it was going from JR High to High School. I will continue to be his biggest critic and him being a Freshmen will never be justification for his mistakes in my book.

Just make sure he doesn't wear down, Pops. Especially in September. Post games he needs to take really good care of himself. That October schedule will be fierce.

He is a freshman. Young. It is more then just how much faster the game is. He is going from high school to college in LIFE.... and the game is tougher, longer... season wears on you... The man will be a man. There will be bumps.

Make sure Shaq knows there's a ton of folks in his corner cheering him and the team on.
