Richt is just saying that the battles haven't been won on the field, so any freshman could start at any positions (save QB). He's not a dumbass like Golden or Shannon and burning a kid's shirt for a couple of plays. He'll determine who's ready over the next 2 months and play them if they are. The rest will ride pine and have 5 to play 4.
I think its also just about depth. We honestly do not have the depth at wr to redshirt any of them. Same with LB, except for maybe McCloud if he is still injured.
Yea but you don't burn a redshirt until you play a down so essentially everyone is there for depth if need be. If they get burnt they get burnt but we don't need someone like choc come in to get 5 carries and burnt his redshirt for nothing.

It's not for nothing. Getting freshman PT is important because they need the experience playing in front of 40k+ crowds. I'm pretty sure it was Schenlly who said that he liked to get freshman into the game so that he could see how they respond, and that it would help them grow in the future and be ready once they needed to carry a heavier work load.
As far as the Gray situation is concerned, in 2014 he and Yearby were fighting for the
#3 RB slot. But Yearby won the job. Had he done a lot more with the few chances he got, he may have gotten more chances, that's just the way it works. I also don't get why so many on here act like Gray is some great player, last year he lost his job to a freshman. When Gus went down it was his time to shine, but he didn't.
This year, will Allison get a RS? It's a toss up. It might be worth it to get him PT in the first few games in case Kaaya leaves this year. And we'll be better for it in the future if he sees some action in the first couple games. Travis Home should be a RS for sure, as he'd be the 5th option at RB. Other guys I think will get a RS are Tyreic Martin, Jeff James, Tre Johnson, Irvin jr., and Jovani Haskins. I'd be surprised if any WR or DB got a RS.
