The Freshman

It's a simple defense and safeties really are the playmakers. I'm sure whomever takes the field will be ready to play.

Not concerned at all. The defense we're about to see is unlike anything we've seen in a very long time and the ACC will have to adjust to us.

That's scary to me...wish we still had Deon Bush.

Mark Richt on the radio basically said no freshman are getting redshirted and he slipped and said 2 freshman starting linebackers, maybe 3 lol

Did something happen to Grace?

Why on earth would we start 3 freshmen LB otherwise

Because he might be suspended if not kicked off the team. If he don't have receipts on point do you really think we gonna let any of these kids ***** our probation over these rentals...

How does this work? Is it not good enough for the ncaa if he just gets suspended? If we show were taking disiplinary action, why should we get in trouble?

Satan advises to handle internally.

And Richt was also asked about Grace and Muhammed and said he doesnt worry about it and right now everyones in good standing. Didnt sound too concerned. But whats the news on Darrion Owens? Hes the best LB we have on the team imo.

How can you say that? He has barely played.

Owens and young off the field is the best option i say that only because the guys coming in will be better imo

Idont trust als evals he recruited some jags but we r stacked on the DL on paper and LB will be aight. Dbs r awful OL and RB are weak for a miami team.....all my opinion

Yeah that will tough..but on the flip side the exp you have in two years at that position...I would still expect at least 10 wins this season

I can't remember a 10-win team with 2 TFs at LB. We need Owens, Perry, Smith and Gordinier to step up. I am super impressed with Shaq. But I would love to see the other guys outperform him and deserve to start ahead of him and the other 2 Frosh phenoms. Certainly no more than 1 TF. Rotate, rotate, rotate to stay healthy, too.
Been plenty of 10 win teams over the history of college football that have started 2 or more freshmen.

At LB? Highly doubt there's been many with 2 TF starting in the LB corps.

How long has Owens been out for? Figured he would of been healed by now. Gonna need DO big time.

Furthermore, Richt getting to play his guys will be a plus if Grace is too risky to put in.

Darrion is really good... He has not even shown the tip of the iceberg of his potential at UM... In HS he was extremely disruptive... EVERY team we played had to adjust before or during our games.. he is a beast and we need him this year... If you haven't seen him recently I swear he has grown a full inch and a half... He is 6'4 or maybe even 6'4.5... and at least 260lbs... If I were the King of UM Football I would put him down at DE on pass plays because his ball rushing skills are unreal and that would give him some more time to heal... at LB the lateral movement will weigh heavy on that knee... but if he is 100% then I expect him to do some damage to our opposition from the LB spot.

I just hope he is healthy enough to play because you don't get much in terms of updates on him and usually you would if the outlook is positive?

we all forget about Owens. hopefully he bounces back. in HS he was a monster. It's clear the 3 fresh will play along with grace, owens, and i think smith will get alot of reps.
The kid to watch out for was Charles Perry. i think he can contribute, the kid committed to us early and was solid so no one paid attention, he has talent.

I agree Charles Perry other than Grace... is arguably the most athletic LB on the roster... and Shaq has said to me that Gordinier and Mike Smith work extremely hard on and off the field... He knows they are pushing him and are capable of passing him on the depth chart... And that keeps him focused at the task at hand... I ask who he thought was better and his reply it depends on the day..

I think the biggest adjustment for Gordinier was learning this defense. He was a SAM in a typical 4-3 defense in HS. As you know, most 4-3's put a big, long run stopper at SAM so this aggressive 4-3 is much different in terms of all the blitzing, etc. I think 2 things that give him an advantage to get in the rotation include the fact that he is very smart and uses that to his advantage and he has huge upside as a pass rusher.

Same with our O. This team had better not resemble ANYTHING we've seen in 14 years.

The Sam LB position completely changed now that everybody is running the spread offense. You can't just put a big run stuffer at Sam anymore. Gotta have a guy who can move in space.

Grace would be a more ideal candidate for Sam LB these days.

I would give serious consideration to redshirting these guys:

Allison
Homer
Mullins
Irvin
Haskins
Johnson
Martin
Bethel
James
Wright

Why is LB so much more difficult for a true freshman than QB, OL, DL or Safety? Is it because UM might have 2 freshman at LB, and you enjoy tweaking UM fans?

Can't be that tough of a position for a true freshman, as Pinckney and Shaq replaced veteran players a couple months before their proms.

IMO Grace is arguably our most versatile LB so I don't think he would be a risk. I expect big things from him this year.

That is scary... and too see the picture clearly its Not just Dalvin Cook versus the LB it is also and experienced Offensive Line versus the LB...Any of the three with a clean shot at Dalvin would knock his block off... But Dalvin is very elusive and with a good line creating lanes... it could be scary.... Unless... our front four come to the party... If the front four is banging... then you see clear shots at the RB for Lbs and If LBs are filling gaps playing down hill.. then you will see clear shots from the safeties at or behind the LOS

That is great point. Football is like an assembly line, each player has a part and role to play. Yes there is individual greatness that is often recognized, rightfully so. Additionally, for a player to be great, each part needs to be doing their part playing their role. JVilma and DJ were great, but that line in front of them were solid as well!

I meant if the whole off field stuff wasn't cleared up. And now I wonder if Im not just very confused right now!

I never considered LB a tough position for a true freshman, as long as the kid is physically ready.

If Mullins is in he plays. We are thin at WR and the kid can play. No argument with the other guys.

Good point...its no comparison to a FR QB or FR OT those would be the hardest...Pinkney has a Bigger adjustment .. he was a MLB in HS in 3x3x5 where Shaq was a MLB in a 4x3 fill and spill very similar to what UM runs now..and WLB is harder to learn alot more variables to read
