The Freshman

If coach said it I can't say not, but I can't see all the 2016 class suiting up. We got two that haven't been cleared, Johnson the OLineman, Homer with a deep backfield and James the safety all appear to be redshirt candidates, but if coach says then it is, I guess.

we all forget about Owens. hopefully he bounces back. in HS he was a monster. It's clear the 3 fresh will play along with grace, owens, and i think smith will get alot of reps.
The kid to watch out for was Charles Perry. i think he can contribute, the kid committed to us early and was solid so no one paid attention, he has talent.

I agree Charles Perry other than Grace... is arguably the most athletic LB on the roster... and Shaq has said to me that Gordinier and Mike Smith work extremely hard on and off the field... He knows they are pushing him and are capable of passing him on the depth chart... And that keeps him focused at the task at hand... I ask who he thought was better and his reply it depends on the day..

perry was a beast in HS. everyone on here says Gorinider is not athletic so who knows.

Darrion is really good... He has not even shown the tip of the iceberg of his potential at UM... In HS he was extremely disruptive... EVERY team we played had to adjust before or during our games.. he is a beast and we need him this year... If you haven't seen him recently I swear he has grown a full inch and a half... He is 6'4 or maybe even 6'4.5... and at least 260lbs... If I were the King of UM Football I would put him down at DE on pass plays because his ball rushing skills are unreal and that would give him some more time to heal... at LB the lateral movement will weigh heavy on that knee... but if he is 100% then I expect him to do some damage to our opposition from the LB spot.

Hows he looking now from a health standpoint? Has he got his speed back? Is he full go? We really need him this year while the freshman get acclimated imo.

He is back and working still a bit tender ... but going at ... You are right he has something that the Freshmen don't have and you can't teach them.. experience... he has been in a battle in front of more than 30,000 fans knowing that a brazillian more watching on TV...

Don't see him going DE, it's a position we have the most players for and new guys coming this year...

Hope to see him on the field week 1. Need him to shake rust off for FSU. I want to see Owens Grace and Shaq starting by then.

Wouldnt be opposed to see Owens just rushing the passer until he gets more comfortable. Could be a confidence builder for him as he gets back into the swing of things. We have potential at DE, but AQM is the only one i feel comfortable saying is going to be a force this year.

And Richt was also asked about Grace and Muhammed and said he doesnt worry about it and right now everyones in good standing. Didnt sound too concerned. But whats the news on Darrion Owens? Hes the best LB we have on the team imo.

lol based on what?

Jermaine Grace is our best linebacker and has production that supports that

Richt is just saying that the battles haven't been won on the field, so any freshman could start at any positions (save QB). He's not a dumbass like Golden or Shannon and burning a kid's shirt for a couple of plays. He'll determine who's ready over the next 2 months and play them if they are. The rest will ride pine and have 5 to play 4.

I think its also just about depth. We honestly do not have the depth at wr to redshirt any of them. Same with LB, except for maybe McCloud if he is still injured.

That's my take from what richt said too, he didn't sound overly concerned at all tbh. Darrion Owens really is the best linebacker nobody is talking about

When's the last time Richt sounded nervous or shook up over anything? Dude's got the pulse rate of a blue whale.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a bunch of dummies involved in that rental fiasco.

People fall in love with physiques. Owens is built like a monster, but he's nowhere near the football player Grace is.

Time will tell.

If two freshman start at LB then this defense will be in trouble.
Yeah that will tough..but on the flip side the exp you have in two years at that position...I would still expect at least 10 wins this season

I can't remember a 10-win team with 2 TFs at LB. We need Owens, Perry, Smith and Gordinier to step up. I am super impressed with Shaq. But I would love to see the other guys outperform him and deserve to start ahead of him and the other 2 Frosh phenoms. Certainly no more than 1 TF. Rotate, rotate, rotate to stay healthy, too.

Been plenty of 10 win teams over the history of college football that have started 2 or more freshmen.
