When Sam got in the game, I thought he looked like the fastest player on the field at that moment.

Kid diagnosed the plays and got to the ball fast and aggressively.

We are going to get back to the fast and physical defenses....

He’s certainly going to be the most impactful new starter, for better or worse. Hopefully this board gives him the same respect they’d expect to receive if put in a similar position. His speed and explosiveness jumped off the field of Saturday. He’s absolutely going to be a game changer over time. The new Miami might start looking like the old Miami. We’ve had an ELITE defense and LB’ing core for the last two seasons. I’m also excited to go from top fifteen/twenty to top 3. Speed kills and our current groups only shortcoming is their not 4.5 kids. If he comes in and plays to his abilities, it will be a smooth transition.

Our linebacker core has never been elite with the current trio.

Good to very good at times but never elite. The fact Brooks looked athletically superior already supports that.
It might not be your idea of elite, but first team all ACC, pre-season All Americans and two guys that are four year starters and will be drafted is elite by most standards. I’d agree we’ve had some of the best to ever play the game here/ I don’t know that’s it’s fair to use that as the standard for elite. I’ll call them elite and respect your opinion that they are not. There’s 132 D-1 teams and they are arguably, as a starting unit, in the top 10.

Fair enough.

You become whatever you recruit and sign

Want fast and aggressive? ......Well they are falling off the trees here in South Florida. and all over LA, GA and TX.

Just get out there and sign them up, put weight on them & build them up as we used to do. ( Vilma, Armstead, Marley, Spencer etc were <= 200 lbs coming in)

Colleges try to turn far too many of them into safeties

So what?? ....we've seen better........Well those days are NOT today

Lewis, Armstead, Vilma, Morgan etc are not out there playing CFB today .....nor are there players out there today that match their skill level amongst this current crop of LBers

In comparison with their current peers , being in the top 10 as a group .....is considered being among the best squads of the day

Are they among the ALL TIME Elite .......NO

Finding an elite linebacking corps here requires a trip down memory lane.

That's the problem.

Elite or not, our LBs have been responsible for more wins by the defense every Saturday than losses, by a huge margin.

They are the least of our worries. Getting into an old timer's comparison game does nothing but give the usual suspects yet another chance to whine about the good old days and make it about who they used to have lunch with.

Honestly, who gives a **** when the topic of the thread is next year's starters.

On paper only. Shaq and Pinckney graded out at the bottom among defensive players for the first two games. They looked sluggish and when Pinckney isn’t blitzing I forget he is on the field.
