The Evolution of Elija "E9" Lofton's Game

This is most likely how he'll make a living in the NFL, and that's pretty good. Wish this is how we'd use him all the time. With improved blocking, he's that much more of a threat slipping into the flats.

@Landon Tengwall did mention he wasn't a fan of lofton leading w/his shoulder on his blocks but admitted it was effective.

Mirabal clearly got really into tip of the spear (pause for @Dwinstitles) and the Andy Ryland contact materials.

Re tip of spear think about the double step and the goblet hands in the run game.

Ryland was with USAFB for a long time, they teach shoulder blocking on kickouts (think: split zone for Lofton)

And a player comfort choice on those wrap plays (hands vs shoulder).

As long as he's square into the guy with his shoulder in the chest and thigh in the nuts, head on correct side- he's fine.

I mean, who plays with a FB these days? The 49ers?

HBack. I non-stop watch teams in Hback looks. I'd guess in probably 25-30% of plays there is some form of an Hback look. Now, with the wham blocks, it seems everywhere. It doesn't have to look like a traditional fullback. That's where he would likely make his money, and that's where he'd give us a competitive advantage, too.
