Wait, that isn't the accepted procedure for submitting a ticket?
Lol he’s still going.

OP is spot on lol but no point in yelling into an echo chamber on here. We have to have more situational awareness than that. But it’s everyone’s big concern with Mario

You cannot get gifted the ball at midfield and sit on it. That is in no world the “right call”

We threw four straight passes before trying the field goal. I mean, I know we all want a new head coach, but let's have some semblance of reality when complaining.

We let all the time run off the clock. Don’t be that dense when replying to a complaint. We don’t have much urgency or clue when to get to the line and conserve time. That’s my issue. I’m aware we took a shot to the end zone. Was just low percentage and we didn’t have time due to our lack of urgency

Oklahoma did it right. Went for the jugular right before the half.
Idk if Oklahoma got the ball first in 2H or not. But we know Miami did.

Winning the “middle 8” is strongly correlated with winning the game. One study I read said in cfb it is around ~74%.

You essentially get an extra possession. Gotta take advantage of that.

Unless, of course, you ***** it up and give the other team a free possession.

Bingo, this was my issue too. We are getting tripped up by two aspects of conservative -- 1. play calling and 2. clock management at the end of the first half. I feel like Dawson moved away from conservative play calling post SMU. He arguably even got a little too cute vs TAMU with all those trick plays, though they did help spread the field and open up those Fletcher runs at the end of the game. But the clock management was definitely conservative.

I am rewatching. We get the ball back at the plus 45 with 1:51 to go.

1st down - fletcher up the middle for 3 yards.

2nd down - snapped with 11 seconds on play clock, fletcher outside zone for a loss of 2. 1:15 on the clock when the ball was snapped.

3rd down - play clock runs down to 4 and a timeout is called BY A&M. :32 left on the clock.

3rd down after timeout - 3rd and 8, complete to Daniels for a 1st down. :26 remaining on clock after the play.

We end up missing a long field goal and going into the half with a timeout in the pocket.

I hope enough time has passed that’s it’s okay to be critical, cause this drive was disgusting. Caveman.
it was terrible from every aspect.

This game and the loss to Louisville were totally different. We lost to Louisville because we were overagressive. Watching SMU game is sickening, with the amount of things that went wrong. I don't even wanna revisit. The only gripe I had with the OC on this game is the untimely gadget plays he called.

It’s more clock management. Mario doesn’t play aggressive. Almost every time we get the ball before halftime with a timeout and 35 seconds- he goes into a shell.

It’s the way he sees the game.

He wants the game in the hands of his better side (defense) and won’t do anything to put them in a disadvantageous situation.

It’s similar to why Ohio State is the absolute dead last pace team in America, even though they have the best player in America on offense. It’s because they have 4 first rounders on defense and are just fine leaning on that to win games. If we can score 40, that’s great, but we’re not doing anything at all to jeopardize our defense.

I’m not saying I agree with the approach before the half, I said earlier in this thread that I thought it was gross, but this is how this staff views this team right now in close games. We want our defense fresh and we want the opposing offense to have to go as far as they can to score. If we are completely fresh and they start on their 20, we’re licking our chops. Just how the team is viewed by the staff imo. So when you’re getting the ball after the half, and it’s 0-0, you’re fine just getting to halftime with the ball, keeping your defense fresh, and resetting after the half.

But it's not "playing not to lose" in the negative way that you frame it. It's playing to win. When we tried to win by airing it out, we lost two games.
