The drive before halftime vs A&M

I could see doing what they did if the ball was at our own 25. But A@M had 3 timeouts, so they would've taken them probably, if they had gotten that same amount of yardage

Miami, in essence, ran out the half for the Aggies.
Which is probably why they ran the fake. They knew Mario wouldn’t press it given the circumstances.

Nah I didnt have an issue with it. Honestly if we played caveman ball more last saturday we would have won comfortably. Dawson wouldnt stick to running Mark up the middle more. But Dawson said his playcalling wasnt good in the game. So least he understands his mistakes
It’s not the play calls itself that I have the biggest gripe with. Fletch had several nice runs in the 1H. More importantly, we saw early on this season what this OL can do to teams not physically or schematically capable of stopping it. If you can lean on your OL and win a game, I’m all for that. Especially considering the windy conditions.

But you can’t let the clock tick like that. We got the ball with 1:51 and a timeout, and took our 3rd down snap with :26 and a timeout. That I can’t live with.

At that point in the game, if I remember correctly, the yardage was: A&M - 170 Miami - 40. They were moving the ball much better than us in the first half, it felt getting into halftime 0-0 was a huge win, and also had a chance to put points on the board. I had no issue with it, especially with us getting the ball to start the second half

Was I high or at one point did we take a delay of game on second down instead of using a timeout? Beck was casually walking off the field
They showed some interesting blitz action, my best guess was he knew he'd be sacked.

Both can be true.

He took the penalty because Miami had already burned 2 timeouts and wanted to conserve the third. And I think it was a third down.

I don’t get this line of reasoning. Not just from you… several people in this thread have mentioned how we got the ball first in 2H.

So answer me this: assuming the opening kickoff is a touchback as most are. Why would we rather go 75 yards to score rather than 45? Because there was “only” 1:51 left in the half? Please.

Add to it what you just said about the yardage. They were moving it early and we weren’t. Doesn’t that make you WANT MORE to try to capitalize on scoring opportunities? Beck looked like ****, but we were fine punting (literally and figuratively) and living to fight another day in 2H? What if Beck throws a pick on the first play of 2H in A&M territory? I am the only guy complaining about this drive then?

Hindsight is 20/20 and everyone is playing the result, that we won the game so it all worked out. I know I sound like a broken record. But I wanna beat the buckeyes and keep playing so yeah, I’m a little nervous that our HC has his ******* puckered up again.

You make valid points. I would have liked at the very least make the FG easier. I wanted a TD for sure. Would have loved if we played for that instead.

The wind affected a lot. A&M was committed to the intermediate throws, and relying on Marcel Reed to buy time with his legs. The problem is, u can’t rely on your qb to buy time and run all game and when they should have ran they couldn’t. We won bc we could run the ball. Still think Dawson could have done a better job and his play-calling and overall gameplan.

Hi. Are you really black and from Overtown? I use to drive to the OB through overtown to see the canes and Fins. Is the Rayvon market still there???

I don’t know if you know me. My name is RVACane and I wanted to formally introduce myself to you as a CIS ambassador of sorts. I love meeting new members.

I can’t believe these moderator Maude’s on here are taking small disciplinary steps giving you warnings and little infractions like they are. That’s such ***** **** for a savage like you.

Warnings, infractions lol - Like I look at your first posts and I know you’re an absolute rabid animal who has no future here and needs to be euthanized A$AP so why **** around and play games as you insult and threaten good longstanding respectful members? This is my corner and you’re not taking over.

So long, Mel. Have a good trip.

To you, good sir!

I was stunned by that call. Because if they get a good punt, they could have pinned Miami deep. And they had 3 timeouts. They could've actually gotten the ball back in pretty decent field position.

That failed fake gave Miami about 30-some-odd-yards of field position

It’s just disrespect. They thought they were the much better team. They hedged the potential momentum gain over our ability to make them pay if they didn’t get it.
What’s really crazy, is if that pass was on target Bryce takes it for six. He was all over it, the only reason it didn’t get picked is because it was so overthrown.

The offense’s first priority should be to score points. I don’t care if it only takes 10 seconds off the clock. Unless it’s late in the fourth quarter and you have a lead, there’s no reason to purposely run out the clock at the expense of scoring.

Dawson kinda alluded to himself being a bit out of sorts in the first half. He wasn't happy with his own calls, thinks he was in his head. At that point in the game, though enough time to score, I think they were happy to get back to the locker room and get a breather and reconvene. His nerves were shot I'm guessing. my .02

I am rewatching. We get the ball back at the plus 45 with 1:51 to go.

1st down - fletcher up the middle for 3 yards.

2nd down - snapped with 11 seconds on play clock, fletcher outside zone for a loss of 2. 1:15 on the clock when the ball was snapped.

3rd down - play clock runs down to 4 and a timeout is called BY A&M. :32 left on the clock.

3rd down after timeout - 3rd and 8, complete to Daniels for a 1st down. :26 remaining on clock after the play.

We end up missing a long field goal and going into the half with a timeout in the pocket.

I hope enough time has passed that’s it’s okay to be critical, cause this drive was disgusting. Caveman.

When should he have called the timeout?

How many timeouts did aTm have?

Also were we in FG range before the completion to CJ?

Except, of course, that we lost two games because we threw six interceptions.

UL maybe, SMU disagree. But I'm talking more about the clock management philosophy of the first 8 games, even those we won. Very different from post-SMU. I get the concern of a turnover given the wind and the passing and field goal kicker woes against TAMU. But I think we should have played with some tempo to get into scoring position, even if the calls were conservatives.

I am a fan of Dawson's and personally think he called a good game. I was even fine with the trick plays to shake things up and give TAMU something to think about. But that particular series was crap IMO.

I don’t know if you’ve ever been in a locker room at halftime, but we desperately needed to get in there and make adjustments. That first half was the worst offensive performance of the entire season, by a ******* mile. They were playing significantly better in the first half on offense and got unlucky on a few possessions or we could’ve been down by a few scores. It was a risk to be aggressive there. I know as a fan you were probably frustrated, but it was absolutely the right call given the context of the situation.
