As someone who often criticizes Cristobal’s clock management I thought he played that perfectly. TAMU had 3 timeouts. We were struggling to move the ball. It was a dog fight game. I would have signed up for a 40 yd FG attempt on 4th down as time expired in this specific game when throwing the ball was a crapshoot. That deep throw to Daniels I thought was a safe happy medium but we couldn’t connect on it.

Sitting on my couch new baby in hand I too was annoyed with some of the play calling, but can we please stop acting like you have any idea what you'd do if you were actually in a situation this stressful with 100k people going nuts and a tie game? Kirby, harbaugh and day... last three titles, all three coaches have gotten "conservative" in big games, this **** is hard, we won, enjoy it and merry Christmas you filthy animals.

Even if they were being conservative and playing for 3, why not move the ball to the center vs the left hashmark given the known wind issues and kicker already missing a FG at that point. As Dawson already admitted, play calling needs to be better next week.

1st down - fletcher up the middle for 3 yards.

2nd down - snapped with 11 seconds on play clock, fletcher outside zone for a loss of 2. 1:15 on the clock when the ball was snapped.

3rd down - play clock runs down to 4 and a timeout is called BY A&M. :32 left on the clock.

3rd down after timeout - 3rd and 8, complete to Daniels for a 1st down. :26 remaining on clock after the play.

We end up missing a long field goal and going into the half with a timeout in the pocket.

I hope enough time has passed that’s it’s okay to be critical, cause this drive was disgusting. Caveman.

Poor management there, I agree.

I don't mind the 2 runs to start it but just give me a little more pace.
The ball to CJ was a Phil Niekro special.
I don't know if you were there, but maybe the wind at that time was extra ******?
Thinking so because Beck was sharp on a few passes to start the second half. Those passes had me thinking why we couldn't at least attempt the same at the end of the half.

Took way too much time. Got the pass to lofton to make it a very reasonable fg. The biggest issue was they were taking way too much time and ran the clock out on themselves so they couldn't run a play to get any closer.

Which was probably the right move.

The D needed a rest and the wind was playing havoc with any deep balls. It's not like either team had a quick strike offence they could pull out - so play conservative, see if you can bust a big run, and try to go up by 3 into the half knowing you get the ball back for an opportunity to double up.

It's not Madden.

I was 50/50 on that drive when it happened.
I thought for sure Davis was going to adjust and make the FG.

The quick passes opening of the second half is when I was thinking if this is something we had, look wise, to close the 1st half.

The throw to Daniels down the sideline was probably partly because we had no time left because so much ticked off during the first 3 snaps. We had a timeout, so I guess maybe the clock didn’t totally dictate the play call, but everything was going to the sidelines after we got the 1st down. Lofton had a catch, then 2 missed by beck. To me, it seems like after we got the 3rd down conversion, Mario said “okay now let’s get aggressive and try to get some points.”

And therein lies my issue. You’re at the plus 45 in a tight game with almost 2 minutes and timeout. You have to try to score points. I’m not saying it had to be beck in shotgun 3 times throwing. But use some pace. Don’t literally run the play clock out every play then run out of time and go into half with an unused timeout. That is incompetence.

It’s goes back to my main gripe about Mario and his conservatism. Seems like you can’t change a zebra’s stripes. He opened it up in November when we had to score points and impress the committee to have a chance at getting in. We did, and now he reverts back to his comfort zone, which is too conservative to win games. I don’t want it coming down to the last drive every game when we have the opportunity to put them away earlier.

This is exactly what was playing in my mind. We had single coverage on the outside all 1st half. Finally exploited it after halftime. Now THIS, I’ll put this on Dawson. I’m sure Mario isn’t stopping him from throwing a high percentage pass that is essentially an extension of the run game.

But the clock management is an issue that has spanned his whole tenure. There is no denying that. People just aren’t as up in arms as me because we came away with a victory.

Thought the red zone play calling when we drove to down the ball second half first drive was more despicable than that drive tbh. Carson had nice throws, mark has a nice big run, and then we doing the Malicat for some reason.

Facts no reason for him not to touch the ball on the 10 going in. Especially since he just busted a 25 yard run to get you there.

Nah I didnt have an issue with it. Honestly if we played caveman ball more last saturday we would have won comfortably. Dawson wouldnt stick to running Mark up the middle more. But Dawson said his playcalling wasnt good in the game. So least he understands his mistakes

I’m pretty sure Mario complained about the time management in his interview going into the tunnel. Ultimately, everything is Mario’s fault, but his subordinates don’t always do as he pleases also.

Obviously I’m not on the sidelines to know what is going on, but it sure seems like Dawson is slow getting his play calls in. Been an ongoing issue.
