I am rewatching. We get the ball back at the plus 45 with 1:51 to go.

1st down - fletcher up the middle for 3 yards.

2nd down - snapped with 11 seconds on play clock, fletcher outside zone for a loss of 2. 1:15 on the clock when the ball was snapped.

3rd down - play clock runs down to 4 and a timeout is called BY A&M. :32 left on the clock.

3rd down after timeout - 3rd and 8, complete to Daniels for a 1st down. :26 remaining on clock after the play.

We end up missing a long field goal and going into the half with a timeout in the pocket.

I hope enough time has passed that’s it’s okay to be critical, cause this drive was disgusting. Caveman.

There’s been a few times where it feels like we are more concerned with not leaving the other team enough time to score than we are about scoring ourselves

Drives me fuggin nuts

I don’t see much of an issue other than you’d like to get the ball snapped a touch quicker after the first down was gained. Maybe you run it on 3rd and 2 right before the field goal to get a little shorter FG. Perhaps you throw that one into the endzone like second down.

Once you took the loss on second down, I think Miami just wanted to make sure that A&M didn’t score.

Both head coaches clearly decided to play it safe because it was clear neither offense was going to do jack.

Elko had a few chances to go for 4th downs and didn’t bite.

We gained 1 yard and 1:19 went off the clock. Its not ideal

Thought the red zone play calling when we drove to down the ball second half first drive was more despicable than that drive tbh. Carson had nice throws, mark has a nice big run, and then we doing the Malicat for some reason.

the worst that would've happened if you don't get a first is that you punt and get to pin them. At that point, Im not sure Elko doesn't go real conservative instead of playing with a bit of fire and letting Reed throw the ball in that situation
Agree. I think they would have just gone into the half had we pinned them inside the 10. I know the wind was nuts, but I wish we had taken a shot on 1st/2nd down since Elko gave us a freebie with the fake punt call. We still ended up taking shots after we got the first down, but they knew we were gonna do it there since there was no time for anything else. Had we gotten 10-14 points out of that drive and the opener of the second half we'd all have a lot more hair and our hearts would be healthier right now lol

We received the ball to start the 2nd half. Many coaches, but not all, wan to make sure to score at the end of the first half, not give the other team the ball, and then start the 2nd half with the ball. It’s a strategy which sacrifices being aggressive at the end of the first half if it means potentially leaving time on the clock.

Now you can disagree with the strategy, whihc is debatable. But it’s not just incompetence about the clock. And notice that Elko understood what UM was trying to do and called his own TO; because he ws playing for the 3rds down stop and getting the ball back.

This was not “playing it safe.” You have to score at least some points to win the game. In a game that tight, when you get the ball in plus territory, you go try to score points. There is no rational argument otherwise. I don’t understand what you are trying to say.

You’re at the plus 45 after a botched fake punt. You try to score points. Or you get knocked out of the tournament next round by a coach that actually will try to score points.

You need points to win. Why not go for them from the plus 45?!

It gave me flashbacks to why we lost 2 games.
This is the correct answer.

I say it all the time on this site - CIS posters love to play the result, and not the process. “Hey, it was windy and we got the ball after half.” “Elko wouldn’t have went either” (actually he just tried a fake punt literally the play before @Jonnyblaze).

This game came down to the last drive and an int in the end zone. This is exactly how we lost SMU and how ND and UF kept it close. We were the better team but can’t put them away.

We all thought Mario learned something cause of how the team looked in November, but as far as I can tell, he is the same conservative guy that doesn’t have the nuts to coach at this level. Yes, we beat A&M, but we aren’t running 4 in a row coaching scared like that.

Neg away. That’s awful coaching. We looked and played like we did in October when we dropped 2 games, but we won so everyone is sucking each others *****. Watch the tide turn if we lose next week and it isn’t pretty to watch. The same guys that are apologists this week will be the harshest critics next week.

I agree with your overall position. I think we need to emphasize points. I wonder how many times last season this may have happened but Ward changed the play and threw the ball down the field instead.

I’m just saying it was done that way for a reason by Dawson, and most certainly it is Mario’s decision. But like you, I disagree with the strategy.

I don't recall fifteen trick plays to Toney in October.

It came down to the last play because we missed 3 gimmie FGs and their STs guy managed to clip Toney's ankles.

I'm glad you had the willpower to wait 4 days after a momentous win for the programme before ****ing in everyone's cornflakes. I'm proud of you.

I could see doing what they did if the ball was at our own 25. But A@M had 3 timeouts, so they would've taken them probably, if they had gotten that same amount of yardage

Miami, in essence, ran out the half for the Aggies.
Which was probably the right move.

The D needed a rest and the wind was playing havoc with any deep balls. It's not like either team had a quick strike offence they could pull out - so play conservative, see if you can bust a big run, and try to go up by 3 into the half knowing you get the ball back for an opportunity to double up.

It's not Madden.
