THE DEFENSE

Miami's 41-7 win over Florida A&M wasn't a shutout (duh, given the other team had seven points).

But it should have been.

Saturday night marked the first time since Miami's 2010 meeting against Florida A&M that the Hurricanes defense gave up zero points. FAMU's lone TD on Saturday came on a botched punt snap.

Miami's 25 rushing yards allowed in Week 2 were the Hurricanes' fewest since Cent. Fla. got only four yards against them in 2008.

The Hurricanes have held opponents under 100 yards in both passing and rushing in the same game only twice since 2008, and both times, it was against FAMU

we bak?

Rank through 2 weeks, playing Olive Garden and obviously crappy Famu.

Total defense #8 at 225 ypg.

This is with the offense sputtering.

Please go back to spazzing out because the true freshmen qb who didn't practice with the team until August isn't Tom Brady yet.

Please go back to drinking your Golden Koolaid. We played FAMU and that is why the numbers are inflated. You sound just like Al himself trying to sell everyone that we have a top 10 defense

No one is saying the defense is great now, but they are much improved. They gave up a lot of yards to FAMU last year. Also heard a lot of whiners talking about how FAMU will be rolling up the yards and points against our D this year. Instead we gave up 114 yards and no offensive scores.

The defense is garbage. They will get eaten alive as the season wears on.

This - Same soft zone passive scheme with guys playing on their heels and receivers getting open on every play. This D will be in the bottom third by the end of the season.

The jury is still out, obviously. I'm just not sure how some guys around here that were worshipping at the altar of Offensive Genius Can Win With Anybody Bobby Petrino for MONTHS can be so quick to say they still suck. I don't care who was hurt for Louisville, it wouldn't have tempered the neverending predictions of Petrino DESTROYING a D'Onofrio defense. As was just mentioned, at worst reserve making a call until at least after Nebraska.

Exactly. It went from "Petrino is the god of offense and there is no way our ****** defense will allow less than 600 yards and 50 points against him. It's going to be a bloodbath. Petrino doesn't hold back." Then, when the D holds their own against the god of offense, only allowing 336 yards despite being asked time and time again to try to bail the Miami offense out of a hole they put them in, suddenly it's not because the D is any good, but because Petrino was holding back.

Did you guys not see the game or understand the circumstances?

An entirely new system being broken in for the first game along with a new QB, and even then Louisville managed to trip over themselves, dropping many would be third down conversions. If we had to play them six weeks from now when they're in full swing it will be a beating.... More than it already was.

And also, for the first time in d'onifrio's tenure here he sends blitzes, and lo and behold it works, and yet they go back to playing the most infuriating scheme I've ever seen. Neutering natural born killers for the sake of the scheme.

Our coaches are ego maniacs, and will sink with their ship.

Hope the ship sinks this weekend. Go Arky State

Allowing a 115 yards against anyone you play is good. Quit *****ing and start being positive. ITs really easy to sit on a couch and talk ****.

The pass rush has been pretty effective so far without blitzing so why do it just for the sake of doing it.

The biggest problem this defense has is depth of talent at linebacker especially in coverage and playing in space.

2.04 yards per rush. Less yards per rush than Florida who has only played eastern michigan so far.

No offense, but if you know Petrino's style of play, that was a very conservative gameplan for him. It males complete sense considering that was his first game back. As good as TB was for the Cards, he would've been sick under Petrino.

You do not overstand the point. No one is saying they are ready to go out there and stop Oregon or anything like that.

But the last few years wake forest ****** and ****** tech and duke ect. have all easily thrown up 500 yards and basically never had to punt.

So far it's been a lot better, especially since the offense has sputtered.

Maybe the defense is better, it should be, we have more talent at key positions. Doesn't change the fact that it's still terrible thanks to poor coaching decisions and schemes. Doesn't change the fact that everyone knows it should be even better, and people can see it. DE's dropping into coverage? GTFO.
AIDS is "better" than it used to be too when dudes would fall out 5 minutes after their diagnosis. But at the end of the day, it's still AIDS.

that is a beautiful analogy

so you'd be happy playing this kinda BS defense for the foreseeable future? these ******** have provided the 2 worst defenses in school history. there is no chance that they could produce a legit championship defense. their ceiling is basically a "decent" defense. good be not great.

that is being generous really. I think we will start to get exposed again shortly. Dook is gonna move the ball up and down the field.

they had a top 20 defense at temple. You notice any of our players from last years d get drafted? Did a single one even make an NFL roster?

Nebraska will put up 500. Our passive scheme and overall lack of anything resembling a game plan will ensure that.

now I assume you're trolling. LMFAO

out of F/A/Gs 15 years or so of being HC or DC he has 2 mythical top 20 defenses. most of the others were beyond pathetic. many in the 80 or worse range. and his two mythical top 20 defenses didnt win ****

didnt win the MAC and that 2004 UVA team with the "top 20" status was like 8-4 and got abused by our beloved 2004 squad.

the verdict is out. the jury spoke. F/A/G is a horrible coach. just putrid.
